JazzG I don't think this is about Newcastle holding firm, it's about Frankfurt. Feels to me like the decision has been made to sell but they'll not engage until after they've secured a replacement to ensure they are in a stronger position to negotiate.

It's smart:

they've come out and said they want to play both together. There's just no way this is true but they'll maintain that until they land Eketike.
this is also a useful line to take when then selling to Liverpool. They can negotiate from a position of strength and extract maximum value.

I think this happens for around £140m.

I don't agree there. Haaland is far better. Isak is very good but he is not really in that very top tier of all time strikers, Haaland is. Even Kane is still producing and he is too. Even Lewa despite his age, maybe he's just passed it. Maybe going to Liverpool will push him to that level but he'll need to stay fit and share his goals with Salah.

Meatwad That is very good point but I don't think they'd be making a move without knowing he is attainable. The current upper management with Michael Edwards are shrewd operators.

Signing Isak for 120-140m isn't an example of being shrewd. it's we have have money and player wants to join us and Newcastle is willing to sell for that price. Liverpool wouldn't be first club to test the waters and then sign the player the following year when it lines up with the selling club's plans.

I don't think of Newcastle as a dumb club these days. Trying to sign a striker now so that they can sell Isak in the future is what a smart club does. A dumb club signs an Ekitike and sells Isak the same summer and doesn't make an impact in the champions league and tumbles down the league table. That's what pre-Saudi Newcastle would do. But hey if they do that then that lets me know that PIF isn't serious about Newcastle and that will be a relief competition wise. But it also doesn't mean the same deal would have been available to us. Maybe Isak would be more willing to make a Liverpool move happen than Arsenal.

I think Newcastle will spend the next year trying to convince him to sign a new deal and if he doesn't they'll sell him for £150m next season. His value won't decrease. They won't want to sell him as they have serious sports washing ambitions.

He doesn't have the drive unfortunately. Too comfortable at Newcastle, just like he was in Spain where he also stayed too long. He doesn't have the body for it either, but that's secondary. If you want to be top dog you need to push yourself and not settle for a medium club. He should do everything in his power to leave right now after the seasons he has had. Who the hell stays three years at Newcastle? Incredible player but he's never going to be anywhere near someone like Ibrahimovic, who backed himself everywhere every time and wasn't afraid to go to war with everyone to get what he wanted.

Gyökeres has that same fire in him despite having perhaps a little less natural talent than Isak, and it makes him the better striker.

Isak has supreme link play and stick him in a side which creates as much watch him explode. The only thing that lets him down is his injury record and last season that got a lot better as well.

Harry Kane fair point, his legs are starting to go though. Lewa is also great but he also plays in one of the best attacking teams in Europe, they make chances for fun out there.

I disagree. Haaland creates plenty he just has a different style. Since they've come to the PL Haaland has got more assists as well as more goals.

Klaus That point I will give you, the most impressive thing about Gyokeres is he has an elite mentality, very few players have this and you can't teach that, you either have it or not. Isak does have a more relaxed mentality, he is being paid a fuck load to play for them but you're right you need to back yourself and push yourself.

I've been this saying for a while. People keep talking about Newcastle and them not needing to sell, but I'm looking at Isak being happy spending his prime years at a nothing club and not forcing a move. I suspect he thought Newcastle would push on like City but they haven't, and he doesn't appear all that fussed about it. Can you imagine a Henry or an Anelka spending their prime years at Newcastle? I am a little surprised that he didn't respond favourably to our public overtures, and while it's commendable that he was professional, the best players are unprofessional as fuck when it comes to moving on and getting the best moves to the biggest clubs.

Sicario2 Controversial but I'd want Isak, I love Eze and we need someone like him but Isak is the one man. Just sign Isak and sign Eze on a loan with obligation out of next years budget. We spent fuck all last year, they can find a way to make it work.

haaland is a better striker/player even on his 9 touch days. i really like isak, but if we signed him for 120m i would first be happy and then every thought after that would be dread thinking about the injuries that will keep him out. the guy is just frail. he needs to see kai's guy.

Meatwad I'd probably trade Gyok and Madueke for Isak. Though I do think its going to be close between the 2 Swedes next season. I would take Gyok and Eze over just Isak though. And TBH I'm kind of hoping Madueke surprises me too.

TBH I'm not that worried about what anyone else is doing as long as we get the players we need and if we get these 3 deals done this week then I don't really care what Liverpool do. If we get Eze as well as that then forget about it, we'll be as good as anyone.
