Coombs who knows his circumstances? Potentially a guy like this is the breadwinner for multiple extended family members. Coupled with his injury track record, maybe he’s conscious of maximising his income. Or maybe he’s just greedy. Hard to know.
I just know that having worked with a lot of westerners and Africans, you’ll find that financial dependents are very different between the two. African colleagues coming out of college often already have to support several dependents. Has real implications on basic things a young Western colleague might take for granted like gap years, masters, travel, nice cars/houses etc., and even something as simple as weekend socialising. Completely different.
