RocktheCasbah I've been really trying hard not to post about it, because I don't see it as a particularly productive conversation, but the situation with Partey is something I personally find very distressing and impossible to not worry about.
My frustration at signing Jorginho is forged in that distress. I was quietly hoping that the club would act more quickly to begin distancing ourselves from the player by responsibly setting up a solid succession plan. I thought the attempt for Douglas Luiz was encouraging, and was willing to wait and see what better plan they could come up with for January. Jorginho does nothing to alleviate these concerns, there is no debate. Sambi failed to do it, and Elneny is who he is.
I'm never going to argue about whether this signing was sensible, because sense isn't what was needed - it was conviction. We didn't seem to have any, and that's a bit devestating if I'm honest. I don't really put this on Arteta or even Edu. This is ultimately Vinai and Josh's responsibility, and I'm only so disappointed because they've done so well in so many other ways.
While I'm generally fine and even happy with the stadium refresh, pointing out that the art itself is relatively mediocre seems entirely reasonable. What doesn't seem reasonable is tying people's reactions to the art to others' reactions to a shit deadline day deal for an(other) old Chelsea reject who is as unlikeable as they come. Especially in light of the ongoing issue some feel we have in the squad that goes far beyond winning football games.
I could also be completely wrong, obviously. Maybe Jorginho is our new starting DM and Partey's time is coming to an end. That I could actually forgive.
