Sicario2 why are you so into this guy? He's proven a major point of failure in this years CL campaign and in last season league campaign (as well as everything else). Paying huge wages to a guy who spends half his time injured and makes costly errors in big games when he's not isn't a good plan to win trophies. Seems like you just want to back him because of the allegations and that's really quite weird.

Qwiss He was instrumental v Real Madrid and has stayed fit all season. I don’t get into the allegations stuff, if the club are happy to extend him that’s all you need to know.

He’s a good squad player for next season. Getting rid and forking out £30-50m for another player doesn’t make sense when we have so much else to do and only so much budget.

We'd need to replace him with a £30-50m player next year anyway. It's extremely unlikely a £30-50m player comes in taking the same wages he's currently on. It's unlikely we'll be paying the £30-50m out in one initial payment, so between the lower wages and instalments it's not a significant financial burden.

I get what Sicario is saying, he won't be a starter and if Zubimendi is around and very good backup but I think we need to move on.

Feel the same about Trossard as well, if a good offer comes in we should be letting him go as well.

But the reality is there is only a finite amount of money to work with so we can't get everything done in one window.

I reckon the plan right now as things stand is for Zubimendi to be the backup.

TBH as gross as it is, it makes sense in a football sense as it gives us a bit of insurance at 6 if Zubimendi takes time to settle. We have a lot of work to get done this summer and integrating 2 new 6s at the same time would be challenging.

i think this will happen, so hopefully Zubi will be awesome and always fit, while simultaneously Calafiori and MLS are fit and awesome, so Tet can use MLS at 6 occasionally next season instead of Partey

I've been assuming it's nailed on Partey's sticking round since Jorginho was clearly off and we won't have the appetite to bring in anyone on top of Zubimendi.

I can see the arguments from a technical continuity perspective but not when it comes to results.

Partey's two or three "brain snaps" at the end of our European campaign arguably cost us our first European Cup. It's not a factor of his decline, it's how he's been for years when the competitive pressure ratchets up. Couple that with Partey's apparent need for regular selection to stay sharp and I'd rather find an alternative via Merino, Rice and Skelly.

The capacity to fluently play something other than this 6–8–8 midfield is probably the tactical piece we're missing anyway.
