We’re not going to be clinical in front of goal this season, so we need to make sure we go back to controlling games well with good general play. We made a lot of daft decisions today, ignoring the obvious pass for the low percentage move. We also need to get rid of the habit of playing it safe when the game starts to get away from us. White, Odegaard and even Partey to an extent all have a habit of doing this, amazingly Xhaka seemed to be the only midfielder who wanted to get the ball forward in the second half.
There was a big drop in intensity after the first 20 mins or so which suggests to me that we’re starting to feel the effects of a tight schedule having played a few away games and two tough home games in recent weeks. Need to grind through this period and get to the World Cup break unscathed.
Lastly, I don’t think Tomi at LB is working even if it should in theory. He’s been surprisingly poor on the ball which makes me think while his left foot is very serviceable it’s by no means second nature to him.
