Was the first half of football I've seen from us that reminded me of last season. We got totally overrun and completely collapsed in an offensive sense. That we held out is a credit to the team though.
The way we allowed them space to attack in the second half reminded me of the United game after the collapse. So open, felt like we had 2 or 3 fewer players out there at times.
I wonder what triggers these types of breakdowns. How can we go from being solid and comfortable to all over the place so quick?
We weren't closing them down (due to fatigue???) and we foolishly kept playing a highline.
We should have dropped back and forced them out wide the moment we realised the ball wasn't sticking upfront and we weren't closing them down in midfield. I don't think they'd have troubled us that much from crosses.
Also, dropping back would have created more space for our attackers to run into, which would have made things easier for them compared to when we push up and make the pitch smaller.
