That was due to having one striker. He was always someone that wasn't rotated enough, these decisions are costly.

Giroud scored 16 league goals that season. How is that having no striker?

He wasn't what we need. We lacked pace massively that season

This is definitely the most anticipation I've had watching Arsenal in a long time … was thinking since 2008 myself. Back then you were excited to watch us because of the quality on the pitch as well as the apparent potential of the side to take the title. Starting to feel a little bit that way now, especially if you factor out City's cheat codes.

That said, 2008 era Fabregas would absolutely kill in our current side, sorry Øde. Watch the videos, kid. But not too many of the rest of them would get in the first XI.

Would be fun to do a joint 2008–2022 XI actually.

How about both Ode and Fabregas? You’d lose Xhaka’s muscle but Fabregas did everything

Very tempting. It'd really be ideal for Ødegaard to apprentice himself to Fabregas as the latter was slightly more feisty and powered through some of the moments when Øde seems to falter. Cesc would've buried that chance in front of goal I reckon.

If it's from the 07/08 season I reckon Adebayor needs to get in ahead of RvP. Probably Clichy too, was the best LB in the league that season.

It's a tough debate, for me, left back is a point of weakness overall across the two eras. I never really rated Clichy although that was one of his better years.

Van Persie was obviously out of contention for most of the season. It's a transhistorical rating. 😃

Can’t even fathom a starting XI from a 15 year period.

A better question to me is, which starting XI is best:

1 - our current starting XI
2 - 2015 FA Cup Final team
3 - 2008 team

Again, White makes it in ahead of Sagna assuming Arteta is the manager. We are playing a very specific system here. We are not playing like Klopp or Wenger.

The Rosicky/Fabregas/Flamini/Hleb midfield was insane that year. Covered so much for our bogey keeper, CB pairing and made Adebayor look like a god

That midfield is ridiculously balanced. I think ignoring manager styles and whatnot this is the team I will go for purely based on players quality.

There's not many from that 07/08 side I'd introduce into what we've got now relative to what we're trying to do.

Cesc is a given. There's an argument for Hleb as another 8 but he wouldn't make the cut for me. The two full backs were brilliant that season but I don't think either could do what the current ones do.

Adebayor was a big part of why that team was successful but it was also a large part why it fell down in the second half of the season. I can't swap him with any of our current front three.

So yeah, Cesc it is. Question is on current form and stylistically would it be for Xhaka or Ode?

Rate Jesus highly but no way he's at the level of Adebayor 08 or RVP.

RvP was a crock in 08. One of the reasons why we fell short in the end, along with Rosicky(just remembered that Eboue played a lot that season 😆 , what a joke that squad was after the first XI) . Adebayor was good, but he still missed loads of chances and was caught offside for 10 times every game.

RvP was good then, but he really reached his peak in 2011 or thereabouts. His last two seasons with us and 2 more with the Mancs, I think. Can't be arsed to check the exact seasons, trying my best to forget.
