With the good starts Lokonga, Vieria and Marquinhos have made to their Arsenal careers and with the likes of Nelson coming back from injury as well as this conveyor belt of youth talent we have coming through, is our squad stronger than we imagined?

Our two biggest concerns were CM and RW. However, the aforementioned players performances thus far have migrated these issues slightly.

Do we still go for a Douglas Luiz in Jan?

Perhaps not in terms of individual talent or elite level players currently, but certainly the best balanced/more complete team I can recall post The Invincibles in regards to players being fir for purpose. That said I stil think we are short in terms of both starting quality and squad depth.

Where do you see gaps in the starting quality Anzac?

Partey, Xhaka and Tierney are probably the three I'd look to improve on. Of the three I'd keep Xhaka at this point. Not sure Tierney fits well into this team the way we're shaping up now, regardless of his injury history.

I'm also still unsure where Zinchenko fits in long term despite his immediate impact at left back, and the effect that might have on squad business in upcoming windows.

When you say improve what do you mean?
When I was talking to multiple Liverpool mates in the past week, most said they would take Partey over their midfielders. I’m tact, only Rodri was consistently desired higher than Partey. And I’ve tended to think of City and Liverpool as gold standard midfields.

It’s often worth talking to other fans as well to gauge our squad quality. We are often too critical of the assets we have.

Well there's one area I could be extremely critical of Partey, but that's a discussion not worth having. That aside, as good as he's been at times, his fitness and consistency is a concern when he takes up such a prominent role in the team. With a far better functioning team surrounding his role this season than previously, I think you can get away with a slightly lesser player who is more reliable, assuming we can't get one to match his level that is. At this age we should be starting to think seriously about succession planning for that role anyway.

So I agree with all your points, including the other one.
Just cautious that peak Partey especially in the big games will be extremely hard to replace. His ability to beat the press and process the ball is incredible. Wonderful distribution down to Odegaard and out to the wings. There are few Premier League players I can think of who can replace him

Way too early for that. The 08 team lost three games all season and would've challenged for the CL even if it weren't for bent refs both domestically and in Europe. Very early days with this one, looks great so far but an injury to #5 and we'll struggle to keep top 4 pace imo.

The 13-14 squad was very good too, things just imploded after Ramsey got injured.

13 14 squad was massively flawed. We didn't have a striker.

We were so much fun to watch in 2008 as well, well, for the first couple of months of it anyway. I went to loads of games that season and it really felt like something special was going to happen annnnd we ended up finishing third. A travesty.

Yeah agree, Ramsey carried us for a long time and even before his injury cracks started to show. Think the 14-15 team was better even though it had fewer points our overall level was higher with the Cazorla Coquelin midfield but it still lacked a top striker to complement Özil and Alexis up front.

Still very early days with this team, we're looking great but we've barely rotated and there are question marks about certain positions and how we'd cope with injuries there, mostly CM but wingers are a worry too. Praying for some luck there

Giroud scored 16 league goals that season. How is that having no striker?

Think Clarence is alluding to Giroud scoring 0 goals in 14 PL games from January to April
