What do you mean by "we asked him to find". Surely he's one of the people making these decisions, he's not just some transfer monkey he's the Technical Director. He's a major part of the decision not to go after a midfielder all summer.

And yet again while we were failing to make signings we let Maitland-Niles go on loan. He could have filled a squad gap in midfield until January.

Yeah, don't understand why we let AMN go. He can cover CM and the fullback positions so he would have been a very valuable squad player.

The midfield especially is so light in numbers that it is borderline negligent by the club to not have signed a CM this window. I also fear for Saka becoming burnt out with European games and the World Cup where he will also play a lot. Arteta has to give Marquinhos a serious chance to prove himself.

I don't think he was ever part of our plans but its just a bit annoying we can't pivot when we need to on players like that.

Most likely we promised him to do it and decided to keep our word.

AMN has long been out of our plans. Him staying is irrelevant. It would be like keeping Bellerin cos Tomi was injured

He is one of those but I think its pretty obvious from the amazon docu that he is part, but not the guy making all the decisions. It's Arteta. If our manager told him not to find a CM, he won't find one. If our manager told him to get rid of our best striker by hook or crook he will do it.

I think he is in charge of finding someone that fits our team and negotiate for them but not the one making the decision of which position or what type of player to go for.

Oh yeah? They both joined us at an old enough age I didn't think they would, thats great then.

I don’t think Saliba and Martinelli actually count. They’re in the u21 list.
The more important list is the foreigners over 21. We are allowed maximum 17. We have 14, so lots of flexibility
Turner, Tierney, Gabriel, Cedric, Tomiyasu, Zinchenko, Partey, Odegaard, Vieira, Lokonga, Elneny, Xhaka, Jesus, Lewis

I think from this season we can count them as HG players as they've been here three years, saw an article about this a few months ago.

They qualify as homegrown players. Yes. But you have 3 lists in a 25 man squad
• Max 17 adult foreigners
• home grown players. Allowed up to 25 players total in squad incl foreigners
• kids. Unlimited - Saliba, Martinelli etc

He's most definitely just a transfer monkey, can't think of many if any decisions that came from him ahead of Arteta. The latter made a bunch of highly risky calls regarding squad depth that backfired, either Edu had the same opinion every time in which case he's useless or he's just Artetas henchman.

He's not even a good transfer monkey though, any self respecting DoF has contingency plans for situations like these. Smaller and poorer clubs string players along for literally years just on the off chance they might need them as backup. We have a player who's out of glass in our by far weakest position and when he inevitably breaks down we make desperate phone calls to Sao Paolo and Birmingham.

Not being funny but our ‘saviour’ could very well be this guy:

At least he can play in EL to rest some players like Xhaka. He’s also not as young as one would think - he’s 22 in a few months and last season played 50 games in a proper men’s league in League 1 last year.

Ricky or anyone that watches our youth football what you think about this guy?

In Areta’s press conference he said he would look at academy players if he has to. Most of the good ones like Balogun and Flores have gone on loan but wondering if there are any out there that we can promote to the first team? That Romanian kid looked good and plays in central midfield…

Also think Nelson will get plenty of opportunities when he’s back fit. Maybe we were lucky with his injury as otherwise he would have been either sold or sent on loan too!

Basically we need a youngster from the academy to have a Saka 2018/2019 or ESR 2019/2020 breakthrough as it would really help with our squad depth.

If anyone plays, it will be Matt Smith and Jack Henry-Francis. Smith is on the older side of the U21s. He’s good but probably not good enough to be a permanent squad member. Decent all rounder without being particularly spiky. Henry-Francis probably has more potential. He’s only 18, a defensive midfielder with good technical ability. He’s been back and forth between u21/3 and the u18 team, and is a bit of a late developer. He hasn’t been highlighted for several years like Azeez and Patino.

Of this quarter my, my money is on Patino, assuming he stays healthy

Cheers, didn’t know who Jack Henry-Francis was but he looks like a promising talent.

Quite technical but tenacious at the same time and looks like a pure #6

I reckon him and Matt Smith will get minutes in the EL.

Surprised Kido Taylor Hart hasn’t made a bigger impression in the youths as he could also be one for the wings for EL and CC.

Our midfield is thin. We all knew that but somehow our only addition there was Zinchenko (who was a great signing btw)

Have a feeling we’re going to be pleasantly surprised by Matt Smith.

Anyone see the training vids the other day? He looked smooth.
