We make runs when playing on the transition and there's space to attack, but that's the easy part. The problem is when you're playing against deeper sides. It requires more nuance where you have to get over the contradiction of having the make runs and keeping the width. It also requires more understanding between players, there's no point dragging a player away if none of your teammates are going to take advantage. It also requires more bravery on the ball, if Saka or Martinelli make a run in a deep defence Partey or Odegaard might try to find them, Elneny or Sambi will probably try to find Cedric. That in turn will discourage people from making runs in the first place. It's why the idea that Tielemans wouldn't bring more to the table than Xhaka is nonsense imo.
Any successful system needs movement into space of some kind though and Arteta regularly talks about us having to 'attack spaces'. Biggest flaw in our games at the moment is that there's not much sign of it except in patches and even when there is no many accept the invitation to make the pass.
