I don't get dissing the 4-2-3-1 though it's a solid formation. If it's about Xhaka, him featuring in the 4-3-3 doesn't much change things.
The problem we had with the 433 was Partey's injury, and it took us too long to find someone able to cover the lone #6 role or even the right balance in a twin pivot before we settled with Elneny.
For mind the crucial difference between Xhaka in the 433 v 4231 is in the former in general he has defensive cover behind him in both the DM and FB when he is used as a #8, whereas in the latter he is generally the player looking to provide defensive cover when the FB goes forward to provide the 5th channel in attack.
In reality I don't like him in either role.
