What is an Arteta CF? Genuine question as we have not really signed any in the last couple of years...
A physical forward that can bring others into play and is strong in the box, not one that thrives on fluidity of movement of the team because from what I have seen over the last 2.5 seasons, I am certain Arteta discourages it.
TBH I suspect/hope the style of CF role seen with Lacazette was more out of need as anything, and brought about due to our slowness in transition through the middle 3rd, and lack of movement into space ahead of the ball. Under those circumstances we needed someone to hold the ball up playing back to goal in transition, but if we improve our tempo (particularly in the early phase in transitioning out of our half), combined with attacking runs into space ahead of the ball, then IMO that enables us to play on the front foot. We can still use a tall, physical player but more a Haaland/Nunez mobile type than a Giroud.
That said IMO perhaps the most important requirements being they get into good goal scoring positions in the box, and their instinct is to look to score so they shoot and convert those chances either by volume and/or placement/accuracy. TBH I'm not sure what any of the CF targets performances are in terms of their xG as to what group they fall into.
The question of a fluid front line is only relevant if you have genuine goal scorers across the forward line and the movement serves to open up scoring opportunities for and of them. IMO we do not have that quality developed enough as it stands, and so the CF still needs to be the focal point for our scoring until we do.
