osimhen is 100m, inclusive of add-ons as well I'd guess. superior player, and I think all things considered I'd rather get him then get a half-measure player like jesus if hes costing 60m. we'll all be pining for a better striker, and im sick to death of doing that ever since rvp left.

I'd much rather start Eddie next season. This is going to be another Laca transfer. Years go by, players leave, people change, but Arsenal keep repeating the same expensive mistakes.

Yeah, the wages we're handing out are a concern too.

I guess in my head, any replacement we bring in in the (hopefully near) future would mean moving on Nketiah over Jesus. Again, you've got the issue that Nketiah is on proportionally high wages too for the reasons we all know so hopefully he can prove his worth over the next couple of seasons.

Guys don’t worry about the money. You want the player you have to pay the amount the seller is willing to accept.

Money isn’t an issue for us unless Aldi suddenly branch out and crack America.

Jesus is a top talent. Very clever and as much of an all rounder as you’ll see.

Osimhen is not only a much superior player but plays in a way that's pretty much the only way a striker can thrive under Arteta - does literally everything by himself. We've had Auba who was top class but relied on service and being found and our slow smelly dogshit setup meant he looked like a spent wingback after a couple months.

Osimhen doesn't care about all of that, punt it forward he'll battle for it by himself bring it under control get his team mates into play and be ready for the cross in the box at the end of the move

For the first five weeks of the season until he breaks down for four months

I'd also much prefer Osimhen but the injury record is a big worry.

Definitely not a value signing but I've made my peace with this one. I don't think you can really justify £100m odd on Osimhen.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert

Arteta has no idea what constitutes a good attack/good forwards (Saka was handed to him), so he goes after a fairly uninspiring forward that he has worked with in the past to make up for it.

He goes for uninspiring signings everywhere. Its all a bit run of the mill. There aren't many flops but theres no real sense of getting someone who can lead this team to another level either. We need another Auba, Sanchez, Cesc, type and at the moment the one who looks close to that is Saka. We've a good basis of a squad to go around a couple of players like that but I think getting the difference maker is the hardest part. Pepe hasn't worked out but I think it was the right move. We need to take similar risks now.

Jesus has also a bit of fight in him. He's a tenacious and aggressive player. We need more players like that.

I actually think the way we've gone about building the squad pretty well and have largely got the profiles right. Ideally you'd swap Ben White and Jesus for top, top quality talent but that's mostly just the reality of being a non-CL club.

We've got a pretty good, talented squad overall, this is where we need the coach to come in and extract the maximum out of it.

Plenty of examples how that's not true, we got Partey for less than that who's a full tier above either, we got Pepe who was a world class player in the making when we got him, we got Auba for a similar fee when we were just in the EL etc pp

Both those didn't have much resale value which is always a factor.

Having said the 60m seems really high for some one with a year left on his contract but the markets are just really unpredictable YoY to compare... thing the best question to ask is if there is anyone else we can get which is a much better value for money considering what is feasible for us.. Don't really know for sure but seeing hardly any top quality strikers around.

There are loads of examples of players going for that much or more without resale value. Lukaku went for three Parteys last season and he was older than Partey was at the time of his transfer to name a big one.

Also "little resale value" is in fact just proving my point further that we don't operate like a non-CL club, very few clubs outside the competition can burn money at the rate we do. We simply move like morons in the market.

From a Sky Sports Article - Since his City debut five and a half years ago, Jesus has the second-biggest negative differential between actual goals scored and expected goals in the Premier League, behind only Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke.

Slightly worrying, don't want another striker missing sitters.

Hopefully he'll thrive, rather than shrink, with the extra responsibility of being the main goal getter here.

Plenty of examples of hot sunny days in the UK, today being one of them. Doesn't mean it's the place to be to find good weather.

The most in demand talent will go to clubs who compete for the CL trophy, the next tier will simply want to play in the CL, the tier after that leaves you with plenty of money but fewer options who will often still cost an arm and a leg. The longer you're out of the CL the worse it gets. Yes, occasionally you'll get lucky but it's not the norm.

I'd also argue Pepe is the perfect example of overpaying because your options are limited and I said it at the time. Our options were him or 100m on Zaha.

Well you'd argue wrong because the other clubs interested in him were Liverpool Napoli and Bayern. Zaha was wanted by no one of note and only that expensive because he kept Palace in the PL by himself.

Not sure what your other paragraphs are meant to prove. Jesus and White have wildly differing profiles themselves in the first place, are you really arguing they are examples of players that non-CL clubs 'have to' get?

We could have just not signed White and played Saliba (results are no different as we have finished outside the top 4 anyway)

And instead of Jesus get Osimhen

That's a net £70 odd milion on Osimhen

Instead Arteta's wasted £50m on White and another £50m on Jesus.

You don't 'have to' get anyone, the point was we don't have access to the market CL clubs have. Going out and getting a Sanchez or Ozil is not impossible but it's unlikely. And while you don't have to, it does make it more inevitable that you'll pay more for lesser players, for the same reasons that Zaha was worth 100m to Palace but nowhere near that for any of the bigger clubs.

Liverpool and Bayern didn't ultimately match our bids though, maybe because at that price they had alternatives who represented better value.
