Doesn't even feel like a football club anymore, more like a startup Arteta founded with American investors
He's right, that doesn't happen in football.
What a fucking mess, you're right, I've been getting startup vibes from Arteta and the club for a while now and I'd be lying if I said it doesn't negatively affect my view of his performance, because there's few things in the world I despise as much as that phony fucking neoliberal startup bullshit where it's all about blinding your customers, and you better believe that's what the Kroenkes think of the fans, with empty PR phrases like "the process" only to make sure nobody interferes with super rich assholes getting even richer. And get celebrated by the public for it, because it's a "special project" and the "culture" at work is so brilliant.
And let's not forget they fired staff only to blow presumably millions on a consultancy firm and also had the gall to raise ticket prices. The club is being taken for a ride by some old white ultra-capitalist asshole and it makes me sick. And honestly, I think my biggest problem with Arteta is that he enables that shit and contributes to that vibe. It bothers me more than missing out on Europe. Because while things were probably more or less the same under Wenger, him being a classy guy and something of a football philosopher allowed me to just tune all the corporate moneyball bullshit out and indulge in my escapism, because it was usually all about the football. Even when it was about money, it was about how he didn't want to spend too much of it. Now it seems like it's all about "the process" and good PR. Football is secondary at Arsenal these days, the brand comes first.
Offering him a new contract after three straight losses, not to good teams either. Fucking hell. So much for the extension being based on reaching the EL at a minimum. It seems like that didn't even factor into the process. They're just convinced he's the guy, and so is Arteta, and all of them will not stop singing his praises until they've finally proven he's the solution.
I really hope our lads can just continue to grow and deliver on the pitch, because right now, the guys wearing the shirt are the only ones I can stand at the club, well and Per I guess, and I'll need to see them raise some trophies to make up for all the fucking bullshit in between our games. Let's see Arteta finally deliver on his reputation as some footballing genius.
