Nah, that's untrue really. It's a message that Arteta achieved KSE's goals for the club this season. Combining it with Eidevall's extension is a reminder they claim to be thinking holistically, and the timing makes sense from their perspective because it erases the uncertainty that would arise—either way—if delayed until the top four situation was determined.

I'm not sure if I'm happy about Arteta being extended, though it has seemed inevitable, but the KSE logic has been transparent and consistent, and I'm happy about that part.

If they wait, they imply top four is their minimum standard, which it was implied wasn't the case earlier in the season. That implication then continues whether we get there (in which case it's assumed it has been the case) or not (in which case extending Arteta would look weak).

This way they get to look decisive and do what they've been planning to do anyway, extend his contract. It makes sense.

That might be true meaning top 6 is the standard they set and that's just disappointing.

But on the other hand means those American idiots really don't know much about football and is buying into Arteta explanation and the need for alot more big bame signings which can only be good for us

Well several people here view it exactly like that. He still had a year on his contract, no good reason to do it now other than to avoid that scenario which might "make sense" from their perspective but only because their minds were set on the outcome.

The club probably thinks this is good PR timing after Klopp, Pep, Ten Haag all agreed new contracts recently.

That's basically how I feel about it. The planned mode of this extension, merits aside, give me some hope they'll also know when to sack him. Much prefer this to the years of rhetoric not matching reality we had with Wenger.

Sure. Except we already knew their minds were set on this outcome and frankly—bearing in mind we're coming back from moments this season where some prophets on this board were declaring relegation was on the cards—the standard we've reached has exceeded most people's expectations. It would be nice to beat Spurs and tie up fourth but I'd be fairly satisfied with a 70 point season, the mark we were talking about as being the requirement a few weeks ago, even if Champions League didn't happen.

None of that is relevant to the question when the "right" point to extend is. I don't share the premise either - if we're talking about expectations I'm sure I didn't hope for 8th, 8th and possibly 4th after 2.5 years, 20 players and 200m+ burnt. Not that my or your expectations matter anyway.

About "prophets" why the need for the constant little jabs, they're not funny and they don't add anything to a discussion that's already pretty callous

Exactly.
We met our objective for the year by locking in Europa league so give him a new contract.
Top 4 is the stretch goal and they probably don't care if we don't make it this year.
