"The journey continues" - Mikel signs extension until 2025
Oh God.
Interesting timing doing that now rather than waiting to see if we do go onto get 4th. Feels a bit like that time they took advantage of being top of the league to announce a season ticket price increase.
Oh fucking hell.
If he gets top 4 it is deserved but think they should have waited till the end of the season to announce it based on the end result of the season.
This feels a bit rushed and just adds unnecessary noise to our end of season campaign.
I guess if it's the hope of a new manager that kills you then at least them announcing it is good news compared to not doing so and him still staying.
Excellent news. He has done pretty well all things considered since coming in but the big challenge will be to keep Miedema.
Will be super unlucky not to win the league this season
feels like a renewal that was going to happen regardless of where we finished, and they were just waiting for a good moment to release the news. better than potentially finishing 6th in a underwhelming manner, then announcing the extension
As others say, seems odd timing so hoping we're not embarrassed by our own hubris.
Not convinced by Arteta and Edu but thats for another time. Arteta has propensity to harm us and elevate us. Letting him walk away and be poached the summer is not great, but neither is locking in for three more seasons. Just hope our paths to success will be not too manager dependent.
Is it confirmed they're keeping their respective roles as men's and women's team managers? Might be worth trying a swap.

I think they wanted European football this year, no matter what type that is. Now we have european football confirmed....so they gave him a new contract.

I'm sure they'd appreciate his hair and eyebrows tips.

Yeah, he was always gonna get an extension unless we finished entirely out of Europe again. The billionaire cunts and clueless incompetents like Stan, Josh, Vinai and Edu who make the big decisions at this club are all convinced Arteta is the solution, Arteta himself believes he is the solution and the team is behind him now that he got rid of all the dissidents for the moment. He was always gonna get that extension And if we do get Top 4, I'll be fine with that decision too, I doubt he makes it to 2025 anyway personally. And if he does end up getting us back into contention for the title and into the CL full time, fucking great. Would love to be proven wrong about him.
What annoys me a lot more than the extension is the calculated timing of the announcement, they're obviously not convinced we're gonna get Top 4 or they would have waited, so they chose to announce it after a string of good results and right before everything could go to shit. All the while we have some neoliberal drones from a consultancy fixing our culture, fucking amazon cameras in the dressing room and David Ornstein is obviously on the payroll at this point. It's so transparent that these people will do everything in their power to make Arsenal seem like a great club on the up with every PR trick in the book, yet have no fucking clue about bloody football. None of them, not Stan, not Josh and not Vinai. Good publicity is the priority for them, they've left the sporting decisions completely up to Edu, a rookie, and Arteta, another rookie, who's narcissistic enough to believe he is the solution. It's madness. Let's just hope Arteta is right about himself. Cause if he isn't the solution, I get the feeling everyone at the club will have no fucking clue whatsoever what to do.

Agree but still don't see why we wouldn't just wait until the end of the season. Seems an unnecessary distraction but hopefully it doesn't impact our performance in any way.
Also what's with the fist emoji, I only ever use that when I joke with friends about expropriating Christian Lindner or Friedrich Merz, is Arteta the solution for capitalism too?
Doing this now instead of waiting until the seasons over tells you everything you need to know about the ambition Josh and Stan have for the club.

It's just a message to the fans that results have no consequences at Arsenal and they are ready to live and die by their decisions no matter what. Nothing is changing their mind now.
All they had to do was literally wait 2 weeks and no one would have batted an eye lid (assuming we finished 4th).
Should have been results based. If we landed top 4, an extension. If we didn't land top 4, no extension but opportunity to try again next season.
