If they complete that deal, it means they would have spent 230m euros this window and mostly on high wages + 2 high profile free transfers with good sign on fees + wages. And apparently they are trying to sign more players, Marcos Alonso is pretty much done on high sign on fee and wages

Looks like United pulled out of the Arnautovic move as his wage demands is too high and don't seem interested enough to join them at this stage of his career.

The BBC saying part of the reason they pulled out is the fan reaction - which is more embarrassing than a schmuck like Arnautovic turning you down. Like, do you want the player or not? Is he the right fit or not? A clown club atm they really are.

They are trying to play smoke and mirrors so as to increase their revenues to meet La Liga FFP criteria, and then be able to register their shiney new signings.
Would be the ultimate banter if they are unable to do so for the start of the season.

uniteds dealings remind me of our 11/12 trolleydash summer when we got benayoun, Santos, merte, arteta etc. that air of panic and disarray is palpable

Their left back Malacia reminds me of Santos the way we was diving into tackles when he came on against Brighton and yes, this United summer feels a lot like ours from 11/12.

Hm, I think that was a good window for us. Arteta and Mertesacker were great signings while Benayoun did a decent job on loan while he was here.

It turned out alright but no one at the time thought we were doing the right thing. Similarly, someone like Rabiot could be an Arteta type steady hand in the middle of the park for them and end up being exactly what they need but the way in which it's playing out for United this summer is very similar to the way it was for us in 11/12. Whether it works for them they way it did for us (relative to top 4 hopes) is yet to be seen.
