Nah. Eddie was looking for it and the defender was trying not to make contact. Similar to Elneny in the first half.

I left for work a few minutes before Patino scored. Typical. Really pleased for him though, and for Eddie and Pepe - exactly what you want from your League Cup squad. Real shame AMN is ill, would have been a good game for him to play.

I too thought the ref was great. Gave yellows straight away to protect players from dangerous tackles. I reckon he would have sent Harry off on the weekend.

And I thought Eddie went looking for the pen near the end - not upset it wasn't given.

He was today. Usually can't stand his punditry when he covers out games, way too negative, even when we were playing well during the Fabregas era.

Balogun was shit, was very disappointed. Eddie showed him up.

Thought Xhaka was brilliant when he came on albeit against league 1 opposition.

Pepe had a good game but still had frustrating moments I felt.

Balogun is lucky if he has more than 200 minutes in professional football - give him a chance. It was a similar story with Nketiah, he has really only come into his own physically this season, but evwn he's been written off despite having barely played.

Balogun is gonna need some space for sure. It'll be years before he can contribute to first team football and the fans need to give him that time. Very few players are the finished article at 20.

Really wish we had treated Eddie better over the past year though, and this season in particular, because he deserved to play much more in my opinion. He didn't even get into the matchday squad for two months after the first backheel he scored this season. I hope it's not too late to get him to extend. His ability to read the game inside the box isn't normal.

it will suck to lose eddie. his fox in the box skillset would be useful, if not as a first choice option, at least to have in the squad

Still think he'll sign. Doesn't seem like he wants to leave really. Just trying to force our hand to give him more opportunities and I reckon he'll get them soon enough.

Yep, exactly. He looked like a player used to having more time, and less skilled defenders. A couple of times he tried to go on his own which might work against U23 opposition, but not here. He needs to go on loan and play regularly.

All our secondary forwards need more competitive minutes. Taking the problem as a whole it's a risk to our progress and also runs down the value of these players in terms of their development and how they're seen.

Arteta should have Nketiah, Pépé and Balogun (and previously, Martinelli) on the bench and should at least be giving them minutes in the last half hour of matches when we're ahead and relatively comfortable. I'll accept there haven't been that many occasions like that, but it looks like a real problem after the last month.
