Yeah that’s a big one. The World Cup. Never actually thought of that. Every game could feel like an audition of sorts where he begins to think his every misstep, however small, might cost him a place. That’s a huge weight to carry around. It’s up to Arteta to have a chat with him and allay his fears, refocus his mind on the present with the assurance that the future will take care of itself.

It’s frustrating because the rest of his game was great. Was passing like prime Pirlo for a phase in the second half. Hopefully these errors are a phase because I’d hate for the noise to become too loud.

Should not be trying to control it, he didn't get his feet sorted quick enough so has to let it bounce and then fight for it. Trying to control it made the situation worse. That channel between him and Tomi is where Liverpool got a lot of success in the first half. With Gabriel when he makes a mistake you can see he gets rattled easily, I think he plays with his heart on his sleeve.

Also just seen the handball incident, that is never a penalty. His arm was a bit out but he has no time to react.

I'm not here to assume/accept something racist was said, but from Gabriel and Xhaka's reaction it looks like something over the line was said.

That could be about family or something besides race though.

However, Gabriel also has a crucial defensive function in Arsenal’s system. In the 2-3-5 / 3-2-5 system they operate in, there is no player more stressed, positionally, than Gabriel. Oleksandr Zinchenko’s arrival has allowed Arsenal to exert greater control over games, largely because he doesn’t really play at left-back at all. (Nobody averages more touches in the middle third for Arsenal this season).

Clrnc there was a move in the game where Kane was backing into Gabriel to try and roll him near the goal, but he stood up and didn’t let Kane through. Brilliant play, then the ball went out wide and a cross came in to where you might usually expect Gabriel to be. Saliba powered through and headered clear. It was a great snapshot of the two of them working well individually and as a pair

He’s been superb since the Spurs game at the Emirates basically, which I think was his last error. Number of times he broke up the pass into Kane (their get out ball) in that first half ensured we were as dominant as we were.

Segway I think he's up there. If we're looking for something that sets him apart, then his contribution on offensive corners and set-pieces comes to mind.

can't teach height, is what i said when we signed him and saliba. having big strapping centre halves that can cover the ground and dominate aerially is another of those weird blind spots we had until we signed these two. having defenders like this is a cheat code in england

I am Arsenal Till I Die no more weak ass defenders that are good on the ball and just decent defensively. We need super powers like these 2.

They are really different level. I said they are the best cb partnership we had since invincibles at the start of the season prematurely and I still stand by it
