White had a worse match than Gabriel, don't understand how people can want him to take his spot.

ofcourse, he's playing out of position. he's serviceable at RB but has never looked like a long term solution there. I think it's worth trying white and saliba together, and bringing in tomi. a back four of zin, saliba, white and tomi would be super comfortable on the ball and open up more avenues for the kind of ball progression artetas style demands. I know Gabriel's passing stats are sound, but him and the RB version of white are a bit stiff and have been responsible for some loose passing and sloppy turnovers this season

again, I'm a fan of gabriel but he's looked poor in most of our games this season. I'd give him a break for a bit and let him earn his spot back

Gabriel has had poor games but he is still better then White. White at CB had plenty of bad games, it's just his errors are not as flashy as the ones Gabriel makes. Tomi-Saliba-Gabriel-Zinechenko is the back 4 for me.

They're all good. Saliba didn't have a great game v Mancs either, but no one is suggesting he needs replacing. Gabriel just needs to iron out the nerves, but even if that doesn't happen, he's still a great defender to have because for every mistake that's cost us, he's also bailed us out other times with his goals.

In the same United match he made a very important challenge late on to prevent the 4th goal too.

It's weird but everytime Gabriel had a bad game it gets magnified and his thread gets bumped but when he has a great game nobody cares.

We judge Gabriel in the big games, Clrnc.

No one cares if he deals with shit Watkins or players like that. Those should be his bread and butter.

Next challenge is Kane on 1/10. Saliba is being closely watched too, don’t worry.

Everyone's been playing favourites on here for quite a while, but that's the thing Arteta shouldn't do.

It's no surprise that with Saliba's arrival four doesn't go into three.

Too much is made of so-called big games. All our defenders do better against small teams than big ones, anything else wouldn't have made sense.

I feel like a real minority. Very comfortable with all of White, Gabriel and Saliba. Think they perfectly fit the way we play.

That's only a minority if you prefer White at RB to Tomi. If you're talking about as CBs I literally don't think a single person on here sees the position as a priority position to buy someone.

I’ve also liked White at RB. He’s one of our smartest, most skilful players in the back 5.
I like the flexibility we have. When we rest these starters, we can swop in great alternatives like Tomi and Tierney.

Preferring Tomi to White isn't necessarily about not liking the latter, it could also be about the former being brilliant.

Yeah Whites very good he's just got a lot of talent ahead of him. Its a good problem and as we've seen it makes a big difference to have him as utility defensive back up. I can't imagine we'd have won that five on the trot if Cedric had started all those games.

Need to see a bit more of Tomiyasu this season and I'm keen for that. As for White, I don't think he's the type to get a chip on his shoulder too badly or allow his form to collapse if he's not always picked. Hope I'm right about that.

He wasn't even worse than the other defenders on the day. That's the problem. Zinchenko was MIA most of the time.

Furthermore, White had an absolutely terrible game last year at OT too and nobody bother to bump his thread for example. Tierney had a terrible big game 2 years ago but nobody bother too. Doesn't check out for me

I prefer to think of it as flexibility in our building blocks that enables us to play at a high quality and in the preferred style for more games. We need the same flexibility in midfield and attack. Raphinha, for example, would’ve been awesome.

Flexibility is good but I'm not a big fan of swapping around centre halfs for the sake of it. I do think its an area where consistency and understanding matter more than most.

Whites going to get 40-50 games this season anyway unless he gets injured so I don't really see any issue.

I won't change CBs too. Winning teams normally have a very settled CB partnership and Gabriel Saliba works extremely well with each other.

By the way, our CBs are quick but I'm surprised how quick Rashford is really. There was one instance in the first half both him and Saliba was running at full pelt and Saliba couldn't catch him

I think this is the first time in a (very) long time we've had such good options at centre back. It's a good problem to have, especially if you're old enough to remember Nacho Monreal playing at centre back because we didn't have anyone else.
