I also think Gabriel’s strength and ability to get into and win physical battles with the bigger strikers as well as win a decent share of headers both in attack and defence place him slightly ahead of White in the pecking order. White is the cleaner of the two technically, but you need a bit more than that as CB in the premier league.

in-form gabriel is a starter for me. he's just looked a bit out of sorts this season, making 1-2 major errors in each game, and looking a bit panicky on the ball at times. agree that chopping and changing CBs can be risky, but pool did it quite well, rotating gomez/matip/konate in with Van Dijk, based on form and fitness

Agree. The key here is all of these guys can play the football. White is the most mobile of the lot but gives up aerial prowess. Saliba somewhere in between. And Gabriel obviously the most physical. So I can see different opponents where you don't even need Gabriel, for example City

Top 10 progressive passers in the league. Men like Trent, Cancelo, Walker etc in this list. Ben White is number 9 overall in the league, our highest player ahead of Gabriel and Odegaard. Confirms what we see with our eyes. This is a good offensive player and an integral part of why we are so fluid

Yeah was wondering the same. I hate those "total number of" stats because you miss a game and its totally skewed. Dalots played a decent amount of minutes more than White too.

He can. He was the one who was billed a Busquets successor so more of a 6. Started well at Leeds

These are the per 90s related to that progressive passing chart

Odegard - 6,9
White - 6,7
Xhaka 5,5
Zinchenko 5,0
Gabriel 3,8
Martinelli - 3,3

Those are our most productive progressive passers. Very impressive from Odegaard.
Trent, Cancelo and Roca are out of orbit, averaging around 9-10 per 90.

The funny thing is Trent and to a lesser extent Canelo have both looked pretty poor to me this season, at least by their usual standards. But I guess these are the basics you take for granted.

Possible, or you know, the game played in both leagues is the same and the difference isn't as big as it's made out to be. Acclimatisation, player mentalities, how teams are prepared to include new signings etc all play big roles in how players moving abroad do in their new leagues.

The PL is better on average sure, because of the insane moeny paid for players even from newly promoted teams but the incompetence at owner levels cancels that out a bit.

But ... he's not performing badly, and it's really hard to know whether the right move is to drop him and take the week to week pressure off, or back him to iron out these errors of judgement that have been undermining his game. I think you'd have to know the guy to figure it out.

definitely feels like there's been a bit of a dip from last season. he used to drop a clanger every now and then. this season its been virtually every game, sometimes we've been punished and sometimes we've gotten away with it
