He was gutted when he made his mistake. Absolutely gutted. I felt so bad for him in the moment, where I would typically or previously have felt nothing but irritation and disdain. I wanted us to win, not just for us, but for him as well, to help pick him up. And not only did we do that, he got to redeem himself instantly. Arteta mentioned that his self image has improved, which tells me he is or was fighting some demons when it comes to his confidence in himself as a player. This game would have gone a long way to furthering that renewed and improved mindset. He might not be the most elegant of defenders, but he’s a fighter. Fights for himself, fights for his “brothers”. Fights for his team. I like fighters. We need fighters.
