A lot more than Arteta has shifted out only for us to be treading water. Not going to check the squad list for you but off the top of my head shitsters like Lovren Moreno Mignolet Clyne Karius Lallana reached the CL final under him. Jokers like Ox Milner Henderson Firmino Origi etc won the fucking thing and Liverpool's first league title in forever.
This isn't FIFA or Football Manager, you can't just buy all the players you want, especially you who keeps harping about not wanting to become a oligarch's plaything should know that there's no way to improve as a club if the head coach doesn't know how to improve his players.
I'm not talking about performance though, if you're saying he should have done better with those players in the interim, that's fine - I'm sure Arteta himself would accept he should have done much better than 8th - but it was still a necessary job to overhaul the squad, and it was necessary to do it quickly.
Klopp signed Ox btw, this is the second time you've repressed that little fact, and those shitsters you mention were gone not long after one of them cost him in that very same CL final.
And your numbers don't really accurately reflect what's happening, from our last game against Southampton, 45% of the starting lineup were here, 50% of those who played some part were here as were 55% of the match day squad.
I'm not repressing anything. Any manager can get a signing wrong, some here hated Arteta's guts for signing Willian whereas I don't - there was little reason to assume he'd bomb the way he did here. Regarding the other shitsters you're ignoring the much more important fact that they got him to the CL final in the first place. You replace those who need replacing, no one asks to take League Two players and turn them into CL winners. But you keep focusing on the market, as if a manager's job was just to buy and sell, completely ignoring the possibility to improve the lot you have
The numbers I quoted are literally facts ffs. I didn't quote any specific match because while for Southampton it's "45%" or 5 out of 11 in the starting XI for Newcastle it was just 3, one of them in both matches being Auba who probably won't ever start another game for us. And yes Pepe and Nketiah were in the squad last week and were here when Arteta came but they're bloody obviously not in his plans.
As for Arteta thinking he should've done better I'm sure he does believe that - he gave interviews at the end of last season that the squad was playing at capacity. He thinks he should've gotten into the CL but him not getting there is solely down to his poor players, not his ineptitude to coach anything resembling attacking football
