Pepe fans on twitter despise Arteta (and ESR for some reason), maybe Arteta is punishing them.

My instinct a couple of months back was that Arteta would want to sell Pepe to raise funds in January. Arteta I feel thinks the solution to his problems is still via bringing in new signings, but having been backed with significant funds in the summer, imagine he has been told in no uncertain terms he will have to sell before he can buy. His freezing Pepe out of the team seems to be a way to push him out permanently rather than potentially the player wanting just a loan. I also think the true is same for AMN where he probably has value enough to sell. My guess is that the funds desired are for a new striker which will be expensive and maybe not just limited to one. Nketiah and Lacazette are both free to leave at the end of the season and believe Arteta/the club want to offload Auba when they can, potentially even accepting a January offer.

5 minutes in the last 7 games. That's ridiculous. Before that he had 2 assists in 4 starts. No justification for how he's been treated.

Actually did miss the four game run last January, probably repressed the memory from that ridiculous game at Molineux where Luiz and Leno got sent off. Congrats though, you definitely proved that Arteta gave him a fair shake 😆

Here you go shifting goal posts again, you didn't say anything about league starts.

Pepe has had his chances imo but I don't think he's been treated fairly. Every player suffers from dips but he seems to be dropped indefinitely on a whim. It's pretty obvious Arteta doesn't like him as a player if nothing else.

I explained last time around already that playing Wycombe and Vorskla hardly qualifies for putting your trust in a player.

Having chances means getting the chance to play yourself into form, like loads of others under Arteta got the opportunity to do

Tbf he’s up against Martinelli, Saka and ESR, his playing time was always going to be limited. Only way I see him getting games is as a CF.

These are all players with different skill sets for different scenarios. If you want to assume Saka owns the right wing forward spot then at least he should find some use on the left wing from time to time. Or should have been tried out at CF like you've noted, but that should've been before everything went pear shaped with Auba.

He didn't get any consistent playing time when ESR wasn't in the picture and Martinelli was still injured. Even if they were, none of the three you've mentioned - including Saka - have been good and consistent enough to bench him indefinitely, and none of them even at their best have his end product.

I don't Saka has as much to do with it as people are pretending. He's playing for a manager who signed Willian to play ahead of him.

I was carrying the baton for Pepe last year but whatever his treatment, he's not worth the heartache. There are fundamental flaws in his game, namely his touch, technical consistency and balance etc, that mean he's never really going to excel at a top club.

He should be kept more involved and should be used to give the likes of Saka and ESR a rest more frequently and generally played when he's in a patch of good form, but that's about as far as I'd go.
