Fair points. You'd probably expect a drop off after New Year then given the amount of football he'll have played. Would be impressive if he kept that up. No doubt lead to burn out later down the line if he did manage.

Also impressive for a very small player in a very physical league.

He looks so slow. Maybe it's just the context but he both looks and plays like a little kid. I've never really been a fan of that kind of player anyway, I guess. Good record, for sure. Has a decent strike on him.

I like that atm there hasn't been a lot of talk about him, and hopefully this means clubs are looking elsewhere.
Despite this it could be unlikely to be able to sign him in Jan, with Leverkusen currently 4th and involved in a 5 club battle for the last 2 UCL qualification places.

I think we are going to struggle in general to sign any of the players most talked of as CF options (as most are talked of in regards to summer moves), and even more so in the middle of the season. Any moves we make may be determined by which clubs are prepared to sell mid-season, so we may be more likely to sign our eventual 2nd CF/ST to rotate with Laca until he departs at the end of the season, and then look to pick-up our 1st CF/ST in the summer.

I have also seen it reported that we are looking to sign someone already playing/familiar with the EPL and the names most often raised are DCL and Watkins, although there are issues in that neither of their clubs need to sell, let alone in the middle of the season.
The other obvious option is Toney, and I'd be ok with him as being our cover CF/ST until the summer.

It raises an interesting possibility and also 'fits' with Arteta switching to the 4411/442 with PEA ahead of Laca (but PEA not being able to provide the TH type role of being able to create scoring opportunities for himself). Martinelli may well eventually be able to do so however I do not think he is physically resilient enough atm, and like Toney would be more of an option as opposed to being a starter in the role.

An example of how a change of CF role can work is already evident at MC, who not only play based upon positional play but also have the 2nd most goals scored, despite not having an obvious linking forward or someone who is an out ball option or physical presence in the area. Perhaps we're only using the Deep Lying Forward role with Laca because it is seen as being our best option with our current CF options, and it is actually a work around rather than our intended end state?

I do think this change of role gives us much more options compared to looking only for a linking CF, but that is not to say any of those initial options such as Haaland/Vlahovic etc could not still be included as options for this new TH type role if they have the pace and on the ball ability to also create for themselves. As such a hybrid WF/ST type may well be our preferred option.

IF size was not a requirement it opens up the possibility of someone like Gabi, who could be a steal if talk of a 25m release clause for UEFA clubs is correct.

Saw something today that suggested Toney was available for about 28m.

Despite his hattrick v Sunderland I'm not sure Nketiah actually fits any of our potential CF roles other than as a fox in the box finisher/poacher, and I'm not sure that's the role we are looking for.

A player out of left field I liked the look of early in the season was Viktor Gyokeres at Coventry, however I was only half watching highlights so I don't know what his overall game is like, and he seems to have gone cold of late.

I think we should go for Cavani on a 1.5 year deal or something as cover. He's desperate to leave and he's still top class

All long term options look pretty lame..

Wouldnt mind a cheeky bid for a short term solution if Auba is leaving... someone like Jiménez, stock might be a bit low right now but really liked him before his injury

If we get PEA's wages off the books and Laca remains until the end of the season and if we can't sign a suitable player as either future #1 or #2 CF options, then I'd take a loan deal for Jovic with an option to buy in the summer.

Don’t think Toney is the answer.

Lot of hussle and is decent but he lacks that star quality we need. Doesn’t seem nimble enough.

I'd have him as our #2 CF - especially if PEA departs in Jan and Arteta wants a linking forward at CF, but think we can do better as our #1.

We need variety up top.

Yes we need a “linking forward” but what does that mean? A false type who control the ball and has the technique to play in the wide men at will like Joao Felix can?

Or a powerful type who can lead the line? Out of those who can actually really play people in? Haaland? Vlahovic? (Not sure on him)

We will need a mixture going forward.

Toney would definitely be someone who'd come in with the sole purpose of making those around him better. Essentially a Lacazette with more physicality and probably more goal threat, but maybe not quite as tidy technically. It wouldn't be the worst move in the world in the absence of someone with world class vibes being available.

CF in a top Premier League club is such a hard role to play and the reality is the majority of 'promising' options out there will fail. In this case go for someone functional who you know can and will probably do a job for you.

Vlahovic looks like such a predator - concern with him would be his link up play but he looks decent enough on that front.

I like Calvert-Lewin a lot. He’s a freak in the air, has good physical presence, he can link play and score a variety of goals. Strikes me as the type to improve over time too. Injury history is a worry though.

There seem to be loads of options out there - not an easy one to solve.

I love Calvert-Lewin, but his injury record is a no no. There is no way Everton would sell for under £70 mil, and for that you need to be relied upon.

Toney actually looks to have a bit of vision, and his one touch passing is very good, but doesn’t seem very pacy or can create something out of nothing.

Bamford is a magnificent finisher, can link well with those around him, but has no strength and would struggle to hold the ball up.

Personally, I would buy Alvarez as a false nine, and then get Vlahovic or Toney.

Try to cover both bases and have some variation.

I wouldn't go near either Toney or Calvert-Lewin. The latter was very good for a spell under Ancelotti when he was scoring with every shot he took, but that has predictably faded and it's clear how limited the rest of his game is when he's not banging them in - which he has never managed to do consistently throughout his career. I also find him very annoying whenever I've seen him interviewed, and I like to like our players. Toney is a decent player, but I haven't seen any outstanding ability that makes him an Arsenal Number 9. Maybe as a squad option, but even then I think we should try to do better because the man barely scores.

Looks like that we will need two, not one, strikers in summer.

Laczatte is very likely to leave on a free in summer.

Based on social media rumors, he is not willing to take a pay cut and wants a longer contract (2 years or more).

The club seems reluctant to agree with both the demands.
