if eddie can keep playing the way he plays now i would be quite happy with him staying and adding jesus. they could also play together as jesus would be able to rotate all over the front three. the only issue would be getting used to jesus punchable face

This is how I feel about most of the strikers we've been linked to. People seem to be excited about Jesus based on him scoring in the last 2 weeks, completely ignoring the rest of his season, and last season.

Agree. Jesus can't be just one striker in, and also can't be him and Nketiah. We desperately need to move up to the next level next season.

Jesus goalscoring record looks average on first glance, but he seldom get a run of games at City and often comes in as a sub behind Aguero. Goals to min ratio is actually pretty good and his record for Brazil is also very good. He is not my top choice but he seems pretty realistic based on the heavy links and at our level we can't complain.

That's true this season, he played a lot last season though. Still your overall point I think stands; he has 9 goals and 5 assists in basically 10 games at CF this season, compared to 11 goals and 4 assists in 28/29 games at CF last season. 20 goals and 9 assists in 39 games or so at CF across the past 2 seasons is pretty decent. Over the same period he has the equivalent of 17 games on the wing, with 6 goals and 7 assists... also pretty good.

I don't think his goal scoring looks better when you dig into it TBH. He's really padded his stats in the last 2 weeks scoring 5 of this seasons 8 goals. In games where City basically walked to victory. And another of his goals came when they trashed us 5-0 at the start of the season. To me he looks to be playing for a new deal or a move now. I've watched him loads of over the years and he's almost never impressed me. He doesn't impose himself on games and I don't think he'd be any more motivated after moving down from City to us.

I think we're going to find it hard to sign anyone better than Jesus. But I also recognize that he alone can't significantly improve our team.

Jesus and De Jong would bring us up a level. But who's our back up striker? Balogun? Nketiah on an one year contract?

I'd rather we gamble on someone with more upside than take Jesus just because he's available and ok.

Like you, I'm not bowled over by any of the strikers linked to us but I think that's more a reflection of the market.

Jesus would be the backup. We need to go big on striker this summer regardless of any opportunistic pickups like him.

I doubt we're going big AND signing Jesus. That would be easily a 120m investment, and we desperately need investment in our CM/FB positions.

Who's even out there?

Martinez? Nunez? Lewandowski? .... they all seem a huge stretch to me.

Agreed.

Edu/Arteta will be selling him on coming here as a starter, and a "leader" in that he's slightly older (experienced?) then ESR/Saka/Martinelli/Ode.

Personally, I think he'd be a decent signing as I don't see us pulling a tier 1 striker (Martinez, Lewandowski, Nunez, etc.)

OK, then maybe we don't sign Jesus. No biggie. I don't think that's actually the case, though.
