By slow I mean he’s not very agile and his dribbling/running style is awkward, similar issues to what Walcott had.

Definitely first touch isn’t great either.

Walcott may have had pace but it wasn't much use when the rest of his game was slow.

A lot of people pushing the Toney bandwagon. A comp of his most recent game was pretty impressive I must say. I wonder if he might actually be the best option out there even if not the most enticing?

Maybe for back up. If we are going for a striker, let’s go for a proper striker. One the opposing team always know they have to account for or be punished.

And here you are claiming there's no such thing as standards being lowered at the club. Best option sure, to finish 6th-8th again.

I actually like him as a player but he's not even remotely the level we should be looking for.

I think Laca has been so dire you just end up thinking any half decent PL striker who can grab 15 goals is a massive improvement. We need more than that though.

That's sort of the point of my question though, is the objection because he's Toney from Brentford or because he actually doesn't offer as much as the likes of Isak?

My instincts are the same as you guys but once you look past Felix and maybe Nunes, there's big question marks over the rest.

The difference between Isak and Toney is that Isak is 22 and had a good season last year, though his forms dropped a bit this season. Toney is 26 and is having his first top flight season and doing ok. I'm more wary of Isak after this season but you are still buying potential. Toney, DCL, etc are what they are, they're a lot less likely to go up a level.

Agree on DCL. Toney could be a late bloomer though like a lot of guys who come up from the lower leagues (Drogba, Vardy, Kos, Kante etc). His uptick in form since Eriksen has come in also makes me wonder if being surrounded by better players he might go up a level.

I think Toney is decent, but as others have said only because he would offer more than Lacazette.

But I wouldn't take him here unless he was a last minute panic buy.

if we make it back to the CL for next season by some chance, i think we need to be prepared to spend almost our entire transfer budget on the single best striker we can persuade to come here. its doubtful we're able to get mbappe or haaland. fair enough. but we should be willing to spend for the best available option, and a player with an already proven track record. im not confident in our ability to identify a good 20/21 year old talent who hasnt really exploded yet. without a top tier striker, we're not going to be a serious threat to anyone, especially since we cant make up for the lack of striker goals with a player like salah on the wing.

I think it may have been Statmen Dave - had some numbers that had him as being quicker, but not significantly so as it was measured to tenths and hundreds of a second, and when that close it's negligible one way or another. Perhaps it was more about acceleration and that initial burst over 30m rather than top speed as pace?

I've gone off him since his repeated incidents of dissing his club = IMO fails the respect non-negotiable for me (just like Xhaka).
