if we make it back to the CL for next season by some chance, i think we need to be prepared to spend almost our entire transfer budget on the single best striker we can persuade to come here. its doubtful we're able to get mbappe or haaland. fair enough. but we should be willing to spend for the best available option, and a player with an already proven track record. im not confident in our ability to identify a good 20/21 year old talent who hasnt really exploded yet. without a top tier striker, we're not going to be a serious threat to anyone, especially since we cant make up for the lack of striker goals with a player like salah on the wing.
Just to hammer this home I posted in the top4 thread we have the lowest conversion this year (of the 98 clubs in UEFA top5 domestic leagues in regards to BIG chances created), and we don't create enough of those to begin with as we're about half that of TH. So far for 2022 we have converted 3 of 17.
I'd even go so far as to say that I don't want a linking forward over a bona fide goal scorer. We don't need a CF to play back to goal if we use the WFs as the out-ball instead, and the major tactical advantage of a linking CF is the creation of space for the WFs to attack. IMO our WFs do not score enough to warrant that
CF role.
