Saw a report Arteta has supposedly decided on Jovic as being our CF priority in the summer.
Wonder how much of that is predetermined upon us NOT regaining top4?

IIRC I think we tried to loan him but RM wanted 18 months with an obligation to buy, and we were only looking at 6 months. Which makes me think he is a planB option based on a smaller budget and not regaining top4/UCL.

EDIT - Just read that RM pulled the plug on a loan deal with us in Jan as a result of a minor injury to Benzema.
It may have been Kulusevski I was thinking about previously above.

EDIT - nope, not Kulusevski although we were interested in getting him = it was Melo we didn't get because Juve wanted 18 month loan and an obligation to buy for 45mE. Reports were Edu was prepared to meet their terms but it was vetoed by Arteta(?) at the Board level.

I saw Jorge Mendes wants to add him to his stable of players. Have we ever signed anyone related to him?

Seems Benfica fans don't think he worth 80m, but I guess that's the market now for strikers. Seems like he frustrates them with his decision making and plays more running with the ball than a target man. I remember they laughed like crazy when we bought Tavares.

darwin hasn't really passed the eye test for me, and these quoted prices leave me less convinced as well. there's no obvious choices in the striker marker, question marks and risks tied with pretty much every option

I think he looks like everything you want from a young striker.

He can attack facing the goal (as seen from his time out on the left channel) or back to goal. He's scoring freely, can assist, and has plenty of physical traits to build around.

Far more to work with than Vlahovic or David for example.

We can compare both in a couple of years. My money will be on Vlahovic having a much more distinctive career.

Have seen a report he has better pace & acceleration than the likes of Haaland, Isak and Mbappe.
Not sure what the criteria was but it suggests his pace is considered to be a weapon.

Partly because he is already at one of the Elite clubs in Europe.
