Hit it well but positioned it badly. Anywhere other than straight at the keeper and it would be in. Anyway he’s a CB.

We need to get proper full backs in the summer (White is not a RB either), we have no real specialists and it’s costing us big time.

daredevil I don't think he said anything, but he was very angry/frustrated, close to crying after the game because he missed that chance.

But yeah, I bet he feels he has to do a shit load in the 5 minutes he gets per game in order to get some more after...
Its not just him, a few players can do whatever and they will still never play. I mean Nelson won us a ridiculous amount of points last season compared with how much he played, and he literally got 0 starts as a reward. It's been a few months now and I still can't get over the fact that he and ESR did not get a start on the last freaking day of the season, when there was nothing to be won or lost.

daredevil I'm not sure he said anything, but Zinny ended up apparently consoling him on the pitch after the game. Emile had been very unlucky not to score towards the end.

HomeSteak In fairness, I think both Arteta and Emile have alluded to there being something not quite right mentally & emotionally following Emile's return from injury. I get what you're saying, and he could have at least given him a sub appearance on that last day, but maybe Emile himself just hasn't been at the right level to make that appearance. We can see now he is getting more and more game time - admittedly, from a low starting point.

i don't why but i hate that word unlucky in football with a passion. i don't see it as unlucky if you hit the goalkeeper. it's probably from it being seared into my brain during the wenger years where every shit goalkeeper was supposedly having the game of his career when in reality we were just shit at finishing.

RocktheCasbah Yeah, I mean Arteta was right not to put him in during the title run, and to wait for him to get his fitness back, no doubt about that. But I mean...on the last day, or the games once it was clear it was all over? ESR played 15 minutes vs Wolves lol on the last day, Nelson 30. There is something wrong with how he manages the squad, I mean, ok don't go full Wenger on the last day, but still...
I mean, as I have said, Nelson in 200 minutes of PL, so a little over 2 games (he played 60 minutes in one game because Saka was injured)got us 3 goals and 2 assists, all of them vital...and his reward was 0 starts. And even now, its clear the he is not seen as a right winger back-up but as a 4th choice left winger...what was the point in him staying here? Maybe just so we can sell him next summer to make some money, so we don't loose him for free?

Yeah, I think I said at the time the deal was announced, I didn't really understand why Nelson signed it, but I got why the club wanted to do it. But if this is the shape of things to come, I'm not sure it really makes a lot of sense for the club now either - unless, as you say, we're gonna get a transfer fee for him next summer.

Meatwad well, okay, Smith Rowe probably wasn't the only to think he should have scored, but to me, the keeper just made a good save. That's okay, it happens, it shouldn't be something that sees you getting upset afterwards. Especially after winning four zip.

If you hit a shot straight at the GK you're not unlucky, but it's clearly possible to be. If you hit a finish that goes in 8/10 times, you're not a worse/better finisher depending on whether the GK saves it or not.

QuincyAbeyie did Smith Rowe hit the ball straight at the keeper? I don't remember it happening like that, but I might have misremembered. Either way, it's still not something worth reacting to the way he appeared to.

No, he didn't. It's an example of a shot where you're not unlucky to have the GK save it, compared to my second example where you will be unlucky.

Im saying that the term "unlucky" absolutely has a place in football.
