He got sacked because we played some of the worst, most soul-crushing football I've ever seen where we couldn't buy a goal chance for months. An absolute horror show it was. We were heading straight for a relegation battle in that second season with nothing to brake the fall.
Not that Arteta has been much better in the chance creation department, mind, so the point about Emery being judged differently because he wasn't fluent enough is still true.
So as a coach in a new organization you must be permitted the players you feel would best execute your vision. You must also be allowed to change the culture as you see fit. We failed him in the former, and his mistake for not being ruthless enough with the latter - the Ozil situation dogged him throughout his time here, and it undermined his authority automatically, as at time, the club hadn’t really decided what they wanted to do with the German.
But more importantly for me I could see that that man put his heart and soul into our club and into his work.
And we just isolated him.
