Honestly, I don't know why you make it such a partisan matter. This idea that you're either Arteta-Out or an Arteta fan-boy is really boring now and quite frankly a redundant line of discourse that continues to be propogated on the most uneducated parts of the footballing internet.

If you've reduced what Ricky said to him being an Arteta fan-boy then what's the point of trying to have any nuanced form of discussion.

I wasn't responding to a post from Ricky but Coombs. And meatwad has most definitely a point because while everyone saw that we needed improvements in specific positions it's only a certain part of the forum who acts like we had a relegation level squad. It makes sense because otherwise you'd have to ask questions why we finished 8th in consecutive seasons and are now 10th with a negative GD after 9 league games.

I saw this coming before Wenger left and before Arteta or Emery were glints in Ivan's eye. This is exactly the trajectory the club was always going, despite whoever the manager was going to be. The squad was absolutely terrible. A complete and utter travesty of desperation and ego. Emery overperformed with what he had and everyone got tricked into thinking he underperformed.

Wenger had been overperforming for years with an awful squad. Emery overperformed in his 1st season and then in his 2nd season we got a glimpse of the squad's real quality.

Some of us were horrified that we'd field the likes of Mustafi and Iwobi as though they were Arsenal quality.

Arteta's young squad are frustrating and inconsistent, but this season for the first time in many years we have something that resembles a sensible project going forward. Ramsdale is part of that.

It's interesting that people still call the final years of Wenger's tenure "overperforming" when he did leave us in such a steep decline. His custodianship of the squad was criminal in those last few seasons and was very much a part of his remit.

He overperformed with a squad he allowed to decline, if that makes sense. He really needed someone at the club to argue transfer policy with him, or stop him.

Anyway, I really like Ramsdale. I was always willing to give him a go, and I think he has some really promising qualities that can take him a long way. His communication, presence and ability to command his area are great to see.

The bottom fell out of it for AW when he couldn't bounce back to regain top4 immediately the next season.

DD was the missing piece but AW assumed those roles after he left and we failed to sign a DoF to replace him.

Ramsdale has added so much to the team and play.
A v LFC on the 20th Nov will be a good test of his keeping abilities.

That's the first game where can say with 100% certainty that with Leno in goal the results different. Amazing performance.

Difficult not to warm to him. His next big test will be how he reacts to a big error (sorry, had to say it!).

I had no opinion on him as a player, I was mainly miffed at how we bungled the GK situation and had to spend money to rectify the position

having said that, thank god we seem to have got it right. this bloke has been absolutely superb

We didn't bungle or rectify anything. We got our man.

letting emi go, then leno ending up not signing a deal. imo there was some resource bungling there which forced us back into the market but we've ultimately ended up with a great player.

He left. It happens. We acted quickly on Leno and signed his replacement. All in all, good technical direction.

Well good technical direction would have been to get him £10m cheaper last season.

I'm with Gazza, it's a mistake rectified.
