The question wasn’t who he was buying, it was the price he was paying for them. For £25m I do expect a half decent first choice keeper, and for £50m I do expect a ready made CB. Ramsdale has been pretty successful, jury is still very much out on White.

It’s why there weren’t too many complaints with Ode, Tavares, Tomi, Sambi as they were relatively cheap.

Seems to me Ramsdale is about the only one this applies to. And he was already a player that people in the game seemed to rate, its not like he unearthed some hidden gem. We spent €30m on him after Sheff Utd had spent £20m on him.

I don't think you get a ton of credit when you spend €30m on a keeper and he isn't a disaster.

Arteta signed a goalkeeper all of us geniuses here thought was crap, that no one anywhere really gave two shits about, but there has to be some way to discredit him. Sheffield United paid £24m for Rhian Brewster too. And when clubs like that can risk that much money on dross like him, it tells you that sort of money doesn't mean all that much.

But this is pointless because you have your mind made up.

The bottom line is Arteta has built a decent squad and a tasty looking starting XI, albeit the youngest in the League. And 95% of the shitsters are gone. Which is almost as good.

If that is how it works out, then I'll shout the loudest for it.

But I think Arteta deserves the time and support to try and mould the players he's signed into a real team, the team he had in mind when he was putting this all together with Edu.

Definitely not. The manager should be able to play some none-trash football whether he has hundreds of millions at his disposal to form a team or not. The quality will of course vary depending on the players available, but when it's either have an entire XI of cherrypicked players or everything goes to shit then it's an easy choice to get rid.

Arteta has 5-6 first team players, most of them in areas where everyone would have acknowledged we needed someone. Hardly a cherry picked XI. Agree that it’s problematic that he hasn’t been able to really show enough in the meantime though, which is why he was always going to have to show what he can do with these guys very quickly.

That's a nonsense false dichotomy. No one is suggesting that's the case except you.

Under Arteta, we have won an FA Cup playing some good counter-attack football, we've had spells where we have played decent football, and a long period (half a season) where we kept pace with every other team in the Premier League bar City.

I am the only one suggesting that it's gone to shit last season? Where have you been? The excuse is that he didn't have the players he wanted last season while now he does so I don’t see the false part.

You think he's spent this one and a half year playing good counter-attacking football, keeping pace with the best and all those spells of decent football and all it took was a draw against Crystal Palace for you to starting to doubt that Arteta could implement his ideas, even I held out hope longer than that after I started not liking what I saw.

You are the only one suggesting it's either trash football or a cherry picked XI to justify sacking Arteta.

I have said all along that in my opinion this is where the rubber really hits the road for Arteta. He needs to show he can build a very good team. That's not to say it's been all bad, as I pointed out, but now we need to start seeing consistent progress toward becoming one of the best teams in the country again.

But you know all this when it comes to my viewpoint, and I'm not sure if you're actually being genuine or not.

The last season was him not having his XI, wasn't it? And that was a season of trash football. So if we're not judging anything from that season that means that him serving up garbage doesn't matter if it happens because he doesn’t have his best players available.

Yeah I read so many times how he dont have players he need to be able to play the football he wants last season and he needs massive overhaul etc so that we can judge him. Don't see how that's false when it was suggested so many times.

The bollocking he gives our defenders nearly every time he concedes does make me laugh. 😆 I'm sure they'll all get so used to it soon that it will stop having an effect.

I do appreciate his passion though and he has grown on me.

I think he is performing on par with expected goals conceded and I would like to see him become a goalkeeper that can be a difference maker with his saves and outperform expected goals conceded.

The funny thing is this ‘terrible side’ finished higher under Emery, than it did under Arteta. Yet one paid with his job the other was given 200m to spend.

it's their poor attempt to make their boy arteta look good. i disliked a lot of the players because they weren't good enough to win the title. but during late stage wenger, emery and now arteta we've never had players who were only capable of mid-table finishes.
