Özil used to completely dominate games for us with his movement and his passing. He was sensational his first couple seasons, always on the ball and creating space. It's not his fault he played for a past-it Wenger and without a top class forward. I would not dismiss his time here, even though by the end you got sick of looking at him.
As silky as he is, Ødegaard isn't as consistently influential in games IMO. But a lot of that is because we have a more structured attacking system where he plays a defined role, whereas Özil was a kind of center of gravity that our team revolved around. If he keeps scoring goals like this and being a great team captain, Martin will soon surpass Mesut.
