I think his early time here he looked like a core starter but for me I don't see him as that for us at the moment with the level he's been playing at and that says it for me. I don't necessarily go along with the he's awful but I don't think he's been performing at the level I would have hoped for him and it's been long enough like that I am not sure the previous level is his average one now rather then what we see.

We're looking at two seasons now where he's barely produced. It's definitely time to start asking questions.

I don't think Ode has been particularly bad but I would question whether he's raised our level at all since coming back. Given the talk around Eze at the moment and the way he's been given limited minutes have we really looked any better with Ode starting than when Eze was the regular 10? Very different players but not much has changed. Rice isn't any freer with Ode. Gyokeres isn't scoring more with Ode. Even Saka hasn't really seen an upswing with Ode back. For this reason I don't see why Arteta has refused to rotate him more. Eze needs his confidence back so I really think they should be sharing minutes a lot more than they have.

I disagree with most of the discussion here. Eze doesn't cover Ødegaard. The difference with one or the other on the pitch has been huge. I understand impatience with Ødegaard but we need his skill set, which is unique in our squad, and we need his relationships. It's way more likely Ødegaard finds top form than we develop a plan B system that solves our problems. And it's way more likely for example that Ødegaard and Havertz get some joy as they have done before.

Nothing against Eze getting more minutes, but let him earn his starts. Don't reward him for misfiring and ineffective sub appearances. People have it in their heads Eze has been spitefully frozen out because of his ball watching against Villa. Being real, it's more than that.

Burnwinter You say the difference with Odegaard has been huge but has it? We were trucking along nicely with Eze without really hitting the higher gears and we are the same with Odegaard. "Eze has to earn his starts" sounds like a nice idea that some 90s player turned pundit might come out with but he's had little chance to do that with just 23 minutes in the last 6 PL games and a couple of cup appearances. Odegaard has been fine and I've backed him but I'm still waiting for him to take us up a level. And I've been waiting for about 18 months now. He's gone from being clearly our best midfielder and one of our top 2 players to rarely being mentioned in the conversations about our best players now. Somethings off with him.

Odegaard is the easy choice if you're trying to win games 1-0 or 2-1. He clearly has Arteta's favor due to his pressing and ability to come deep to help with possession.

Just have to accept that we're not going to field the players who would help us win "big" if it means there's a loss of control.

MistaT something more has changed. The best football we played under Arteta was when Rice-Jorginho and Odegaard played in midfield but we look more stiff than ever.

Still Eze has looked a bit disoriented and unimpressive when he's played. I'm sure he'll prove me wrong at some stage, but he's just had a start and he's not looking so amazing is he?

Burnwinter I think he's looked very good. I'm not so obsessed with this "involvement" thing that seems to be measured in 10-minute blocks. I prefer more fun moments over the long run (that is, a season) than all that emotionally draining touch touch touch touch touch touch touch.

Ah yes, I love a good romantic fantasy too, the unattainable dream of the moment of mercurial brilliance. Much better than that dour and dreary "involvement", the reality of organised running, putting boots in contact with ball, cutting out passing lanes.

Well we've had a couple from Eze, he'll always have the NLD, but you'd be mad to expect anything like that at kickoff in any given match based on what he's turning out right now.

Coombs We need to sign this idea and start it in every match. Won't help much on the results side but the sheer anticipation of possible entertainment will be incredible.
