He looks quicker to me. There was a point in the first half where Brentford were trying counter from a corner and he made up ground on their attacker and played the ball back to Ramsdale.

But I agree that he has room to grow in his conditioning. He'll be quicker, stronger and fitter in a year, and be better for it.

Most playmakers are not speedsters anyway.

He's a modern number 10. Works very hard like the leading ones Bernardo, Bruno, KDB, David Silva etc. In fact these days you don't see many passengers for number 10

I don't think speeds his issue at all, he's not pacey but he's not that slow either. He needs to bulk a bit though and be stronger because I feel like the reason he doesn't get forward as much is because he's afraid of being muscled off the ball. Then he can be more aggressive in general. Look at the players you listed, they all get forward into the box much more than Ode does. If he can't do that he should drop deep and control the play from midfield.

I think so too. His understanding with Saka is really encouraging. I still wish he moves across the breadth of pitch more and avoids his right side bias. When he finds space in front of the box he does really well, he is the key, or how he is utilized is the key to creating more high percentage chances IMO.

Ødegaard is looking good. Work to be done but very promising.

As for captain, has to be Gabriel.

I'd rather not have another hothead as captain, Gabriel is a leader with or without the armband. If Tierney can stay fit, I think he's the best candidate. One way or another I'd like a season or two without some fucking drama over that piece of fabric.

I'd give it to Tomi in a year or two personally. Since the day he walked into the team he has reminded me more of an Invincibles player than anyone else we've signed since 2005, aside from maybe Koscielny. There's just something grown up about him.

ode has captained his national team, which i have to imagine counts for something. id be hesitant to give it to gabriel, because hes probably going to be the one fighting for his place if salbia does stay here by some miracle. no way that white and his £50m transfer fee will be on the bench.

partey would be the most logical captain if he was suited for it personality wise, because it feels like hes going to be a nailed on starter for a long time, especially since we seem hellbent on not making improvements at CM.

I thought about Tomiyasu too, but it's still too early for that, with Tierney I figure he's gonna be a starter for the next two years at least and if he can stay fit and iron out the flaws in his game he'll be top class as well. If he doesn't, just give it to Tomi when you eventually replace him. Great to see we have some personality in our backline though, Ramsdale, Gabriel, Tierney and Tomi all have the makings of a leader in one way or another.

We've benched other players with large transfer fees - don't think it'll matter

IMO he is the poster boy for what Arteta is doing, both in terms of his commitment to the cause and because he is not home grown let alone an academy product. I get the feeling he is getting both his old mojo back and is growing into the club with this team.
