He gave an example of being encouraged by Ramsdale's distribution, and being happy that we won a game, what has that got to do with Arteta?
No he said expectations dropped from beginning of last season to beginning of this one. You ignored the point twice only to concede it now by saying everyone knows it. Obviously not everyone did when you've furiously typed "Standards and expectations have not fallen".
I don't want to keep going on about this becasue it makes it bigger than it is but it has to be done (sorry Clrnc). These are the lines I objected to:
"These days we are just happy with any sort of win even without the required performance. A few good passes by our new keeper who isn't tested at all and he's the next big thing etc. It's simple stuffs that make Arsenal fans happy which is sad"
From the Norwich thread: "We were against the worst team in the league at home. And that was how much we created, could literally count it. It's been years since Norwich only conceded 1 against a traditional big 6 team. Our expectations have bottomed."
The reason I'm 'ignoring' the other points you're referring to is probably because that's not the bit I take issue with?
If you leave my statement as is instead of chopping it up, it becomes much more clear what I'm trying to get at.
So you've literally put up a strawman that no one's claiming just to prove your point? 😆
How can it be a strawman if I am the one making that statement ffs 😆
It's an example of people, almost universally and quite enthusiastically, accepting something that's worse than what we've been used to before because there's an acceptance that right now we can't have ready made world class forwards in their prime. But also universally, we all need ESR and Saka to eventually reach close to those sorts of levels.
The point you were actually making if it's not clear to you yourself is you dismissed Clrnc, my and other opinions here as a load of garbage because you were angry at someone on Twitter. Then when you got called out for it you retracted your point. When qs said anything but a EL finish is a failure he demonstrated that perfectly, it's literally a textbook definition of an expectation falling because the guy in charge has delivered so many painful football matches and shit results that you'd have to be delusional to expect anything else. It doesn't mean he doesn't want us going back to winning the league as he also wants the moron in charge out the door yesterday, but still your original claim is just blatantly wrong.
I haven't retracted anything. The reason I'm riling against that line I highlighted from Clrnc is precisely because it's the sort of thing you see on twitter that winds me up, it's dismissive of anyone who makes any sort of remotely positive comment (even when someone is trying to be factual rather than positive) as if it's an indication that they've accepted mediocrity. So yeah, I really don't care about the literal textbook definition.
