At this point I'd gladly take Wenger and his end stage ways compared to Arteta. I can't remember ever being so pessimistic about everything with the club. Starting to feel like Biggus used to.

I remember the second part of that differently Klaus. Some snide comments about his only value addition being identifying someone in the German fourth division or some such. Anyway, it doesn't really matter. Whether or not Wenger's departure was appropriate or otherwise doesn't detract from the fact that Edu and Arteta are a cancer on the club.

Sven did an interview last year saying it was Wenger personally and the prospect of working directly with him that convinced him to come. People just assumed that Wenger wouldn't have time for Sven I think because he loathed sporting directors, but that was never the role Mislintat was brought in for.

I have no doubt he loathed Gazidis and Raul though.

Raul definitely, Wenger was as purist as they come and Raul was a greasy fuck who's mates with every dodgy agent there is. Gazidis however I think was handpicked by Wenger himself, can't see him disliking him.

Wooly's claim about Wenger and Sven scouting players in the 4th division sounds wild though. Wenger's not free from blame or vanity for that matter but that doesn't sound like him at all

Nah, gazidis wasn't hand picked by wenger. That's one of those random things that gained life after a while.

I know the guys who did the process and gazidis was the outstanding candidate by far based on whatever the metrics were.

Was done by Odgers by the way, who are generally considered to be elite in sports executive search.

Yeah Wooly has it the wrong way around I think if he's referring to the Mavropanos comment where Wenger seemed to take umbrage to the idea that Sven identified him, saying they already know every player in Europe or something.

I don't know where but I read it back then when Gazidis was appointed that Wenger was consulted. Doesn't seem far fetched, Dein had left the club back then and the remaining board members were 90 years old on average. Gazidis was just 40 something and his credentials were being an operative for ten years in a joke soccer league, more likely that he was picked because he wasn't going to rock the boat than his alleged understanding of the game.

To be fair I think Gazidis was quite an intelligent and switched on individual. He had his hands tied while Wenger was here but I think it reflects well on him that he brought in Sven and even Raul. He just fucked us over by leaving before it ever had a chance to work.

A bit much praise, he was a hand puppet for the majority of his time here and while getting in Sven was a good move it's hardly like he was an obscure pick up, he was Dortmund's chief scout for eight years including the time they won the double. The only way to see if he had done a good job was to find out if the structure with Sven, Raul and Fahmy (and Emery) was going to work and last but Gazidis left after not even half a year and now not even three years later literally no one out of the group is still at the club.

Yeah Gazidis was definitely hand picked by Wenger. I remember reading it in a few places those days and with quite a few backroom members interview.

Miguel Azeez linked with a loan move to Portsmouth.

I think this move could do him a lot of good instead of sitting on bench here/playing U23 football.

Portsmouth are helmed by the Cowley brothers who had previously managed ESR very well at Huddersfield.
