Just that day against Chelsea he misplaced one of the easiest pass to a nearby teammate, minutes later he went on a slaloming run beating 4 Chelsea players easily then produced a superb crossfield ball

Hopefully he's ready to take Holding's place in the squad next season.

It's a shame Rob will be the last year of his contract come June 2023 as we might have been able to extract a decent fee otherwise.

Still think Holding will be an important squad member if he stays. Not having to rely on someone like Mari, Sokratis, etc in a pinch, or throwing a full back into centre back is a nice safety blanket.

Mari was a bad stop gap signing and barely played for us. Plenty saw it coming anyway.

I think Holding and White is a good backup. Don't forget Tierney and Tomi can play there too. We shouldn't be buying anymore CB

Love Holding. Great attitude and has improved a lot since he came here. Hopefully he along with a few others will get more game time now we are in Europe. My worry with him is that he seems to need a few games to get back to form and it's difficult when you are not playing consistently.

Holding looks like a good presence in the dressing room and seems happy with his role at the club. I wouldn't be in any hurry to get rid of him.

He didn't work out but he had some decent pedigree - did very well in Brazil and City had seen enough talent at some point to sign him. So I don't mind the club taking a punt on him, especially considering he was so cheap at £5m.

I still haven’t forgiven Holding for that performance vs Tottenham

Have to imagine he’s 4th choice CB, and will have very limited mins this year.

Raul really was a crook. Looking at what's happening at Barcelona I think we've had a lucky escape with him. It's one thing paying PL premiums for guys like White, it's another thing overpaying for guys like Mari or giving Cedric, a guy being pushed out by Southampton on a free, such a long contract.

He didn't.

There was a good breakdown of exactly how the deal was structured. It was a €5m loan fee + €3m to make it permament, and then €1m for every 10 appearances after that up to €8m. That's where the figure of €16m came from that was being bandied about because that's the total he could have cost, but it was €8m. And that's probably why he almost never played after we signed him permanently! 😆
