For 70m+, i say we make a more serious run for Odegaard and bring him back. He would probably not cost half that, and then we can use that extra money to strengthen other areas (say, RB or GK or up top).

If the club want to spend 70m, but also still strengthen those other areas, then I'm all for it, but I'm sure we don't have unlimited money for the transfer window.

If we can chuck £55m at White, don’t see why 65m is outlandish for Maddison.

Having said that we shouldn’t be going for a expensive CAM, but then we shouldn’t have gone for a CB either. Everything is lopsided with Arteta and Edu.

We have spent recently, even if poorly. I initially thought the Maddison rumours were to force Madrid's hand and that our first choice was Ødegaard. Impossible to tell. I think the difference now more than ever before, is that we are acquiring before we have managed to sell. Earlier the impression was we always waited to buy until we had sold. I would love either Ødegaard or Maddison. They will improve us.

Yeah that's what I mean. Pepe was a longterm hit on our transfer funds since the expected push never materialised and we couldn't get back into Champions League, and we needed a loan from Kroenke to secure Partey last summer. Since then we've failed to qualify for Europe altogether and the pandemic has erased all gate income. Even if we assume that he has done the same again and loaned us the cash for White, how are we supposed to be spending double of tripple that this summer on Maddison and others (because surely we are planning on bringing in a keeper, a fullback and another midfielder too)? It doesn't add up to me. We've disgraced ourselves with things like the European Super League announcement, and sacking 60-ish people to save some pocket money, because we're running out of money and prestige, but somehow we have enough in the coffers for a £150-200 million summer outlay? Not buying it.

I agree it’s a risk and we shouldn’t do it. But it says a a lot that Arteta is willing to take a similar risk on a CB (White), but not on an attacking midfielder.

And yet I'd say that in terms of comparing the players at that price if Pepe was considered to be worth it then IMO Maddison is even more so, as he has more games at top flight in the EPL and has been more consistent in terms of end product regards to their respective roles.

but that's the thing, his price was something of a shock and he has yet to prove he's a 70 mil player. In fact since his last season was decent but not amazing it can be argued he's never worth the money as part of of the reason you pay so much for any player is immediate quality.

This is from Arseblog, suggesting Maddison could be Partey's partner in midfield - at least that is how Maddison would see himself:

he's able to view himself that way as leciester have typically played with a dedicated athletic defensive spoiler e.g ndidi or mendy, in midfield. he's a bit too much of a passenger on defense and loses too many duels for me to take him seriously as an 8. if we signed another high workrate mid to cover his weaknesses it might work, but as the actual partner for partey with ESR ahead of them - we'd be pushing our luck

And there it is - the heart of the matter, and I agree with your assessment so far as Pepe goes but I also think Maddison is far closer to meeting that requirement.

As for this summer rebuild and the money we are associated with spending, IMO we should be going for more signings closer to the likes of Maddison (in terms of age, quality, fit for purpose and ready to deliver), that we should be of Pepe. That is not to say I don't think we should have flair players who have silky skills on the ball = we gotta have the 'Wow factor'.

Fair play to Bell, didn't think he'd be able to find another scoop after Partey. I think think will happen as well, and it may be why why have not heard much about AMN leaving if he's involved.

This one Leicester ITK(they all trust him and apparently always gets a lot of scoups), actually reported this yesterday online. He said we made a move for 50 mil plus AMN/Willock. But they said no, there is just one player they want from us, Saliba. Other then that they want 70 mil, no players.

50m + Saliba would be retarded. Saliba is exactly the kind of talent Leicester will then sell for 60m when he comes good 2 years later.
