Bit tennous linking an interview from 1998 and saying the Super League proposal as it stands today (i.e. with no promotion and relegation) is what him and Ferguson wanted. I don't doubt clubs have wanted an elite league with more money since I began following football but this wasn't the shape proposed back then

I reckon what Wenger and Ferguson talked about back then is more like what the Champions League turned into in the 2000s in terms of money, status and competitiveness.

The motha fuka bought the club for what 550 mil ? The club is now worth 2.3 bilion. Under his leadership the club went from bad to worse, he invested 0$ from his own money, got money out of the club...managed to make us a proper mid table...and yet, here he is, gonna hit 350 mil a year from now on.

Another driver for the Big 6. They would’ve seen Usmanov and the Saudis coming into the English game and felt they needed to protect their investments. They are locking out competition. I think it’s Leicester, Everton and Villa who should be suing because they can collectively state a case that this cartel is uncompetitive

They're playing the long game imo, seats have been reserved at the table for them. They'll wait and eventually their fans will come on board. The 50+1 rule makes it a bit more trickier for them.

CL replacement, but there's probably an expectation of not participating in the domestic cups too. I just don't see how that would be possible with another 28 games added to the season.

If only there was this much uproar when Abramovich, Mansur etc were buying clubs and spending billions, but because there was financial gain for the PL / Uefa / FIFA you didn’t hear a peep, despite the loss of competition it inevitably brought with it.

There was uproar. Go read the newspapers from that period. There was lots of opposition to Roman and the Middle East taking over the league. We just didn’t have vibrant social media when all this happened.

I’m talking about the fans and the media.
The leagues welcomed these investors because they saw money. They never once imagined that these same magnates would turn around and say “we want to protect our investments with a closed system”.

True, think the clubs would want to keep to domestic league only. Don't think that will go down well here, probably will need heavy compensation to get it done! Also if they threaten to walk out of the PL then every sponsor/broadcaster will be looking to exit their big money deals. Could turn into a right mess so the clubs do have some leverage.

Here's me stressing about us winning the Europa, turns out it doesn't matter 😆

Absolutely. If the top clubs want this, then they'll get it. Nothing UEFA or anyone else can do about that. But I'm still not fully convinced this isn't just a negotiation tactic from the top clubs.

Anyways, I'd watch a super league. I prefer world class football to mediocrity.

Another aspect to consider about this is rule changes. The owners will have the opportunity to tweak and change anything they see fit. For starters I think making games 3 x 30m is something they are dying to implement for ad revenue purposes, and would get pushed through in short order.
