I’m in the other camp. I like this. I think? 🙂
Never, ever, been a fan of either UEFA or FIFA. Corrupt to the bone entities. The top clubs of Europe are making these organizations richer and more powerful, and I don’t like it. I think the clubs SHOULD have more power. I think the top clubs SHOULD get a bigger piece of the money pie. Put another way - FIFA and UEFA have done a shit job pretty much forever, and I honestly expect the clubs themselves to do it better. Whether this is successful or not - it will fundamentally change the hierarchy of the game of football, and I certainly think that is needed.
As for the competition aspect. What I see is American sports in its infancy. There is certainly competition in the NBA, the NHL and the MLB, despite there not being the risk of relegation. If this is launched it will inevitably be clunky first few years, that’s to be expected. Changes will have to be introduced gradually to improve the ‘product’. Despite the outrage I reckon most fans will come back on board sooner rather than later, and new fans will undoubtedly join. I’d certainly rather watch this than what we are currently served. To each their own though. Fully respect those who are firmly in the other camp.
