I think this is wrong and ironically enough very un-conservative. Why the hell would you want to give organisations like FIFA, UEFA and the FA this kind of control? Your basically handing them over the keys to the monopoly and letting them dictate to clubs the rules.

I don't think clubs should form this super league but I also don't think it is right to prevent clubs having a bargaining chip. Why the fuck the government are even getting involved is beyond me.

Football clubs are important to European culture from grass roots right the way up to the big clubs. Governments should absolutely be protecting fans from greedy owners who only want to line their own pockets or launder their reputations. This super league would be terrible for fans, it'd be a very American system and everything thats wrong with American sport would follow. Insane ticket prices, clubs moving city, etc Nothing would trickle down to the grass roots either. It'd destroy the fabric of the game right across the continent.

Qwiss this totally, people get angry about government getting involved but no problem a private company with literally no accountability deciding what happens. It's similar to the social media rise, nobody wants government with oversight having access to personal information and data but a faceless corporation sign me up and we all know how that ended.

If you aren't a fan of the government getting involved that's fair but never trust the private sector to do t right thing because that is literally bottom of their priorities. The aim of this league we'll be to remove those clubs from their roots and lock out all other clubs from ever being involved. It would be the end of my interest in football in the same way personally.

Seems to me the Super League would replace the Champions League rather than interfere with domestic football.

Probably get a few fans on their side with this, costs for watching football legally in this country are crazy man.

Doesn't look like the Super League will be interfering with much other than a few beers now it's lined up the FAs, UEFA and a few belligerent nation states against it.

If it was absolutely inevitable I'd want Arsenal to be part of it, but it'll be better for the world if the Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga et al. don't get converted into glorified versions of the Championship.

awooga83 sorry, that’s not the aim. They don’t want to create a breakaway NFL style league. They want a league that sits on top of existing leagues so they can enjoy existing domestic revenue streams and then extract these super league rents on top.

And they know that European law is much more supportive of competition than US law that accommodates cartels. It will encourage a super league by saying clubs should be free to participate under different competitions.

The current stricture has failed to create pan European affluence. So I don’t see the strong arguments for keeping it without the necessary league-by-league overhauls and an actual coordination amongst FIFA, confederations and FAs instead of a scramble for players’ bodies

I don't understand what you mean, here. What is pan European affluence and why is it needed?

Coombs I'm pretty sure it just means Real, Barca, Juve and the Milans get to make loads of money again. It sure as shit doesn't add any affluence to smaller clubs in those nations or in countries with poorer leagues overall.

Qwiss exactly Qs. I want a situation where Ajax can win the champions league and West Ham or Sassuolo can start the season with hopes of playing in champions league or equivalent. The competition is stale. That these men watched each country have ever more doubles and then trebles and a concentration of English teams in champions league quarters and semis and did nothing about it, is a massive indictment against them

Claudius nah, I don't want that either. I don't want much European competition, really. I'd take the league and cup winners from each country and have them play a cup winners cup the next season and leave it at that. I'm much more interested in watching Arsenal vs Preston North End than Arsenal vs Slavia Praha. Keep it local, let European competition be rare so it can feel special again.
