The goal is to minimize Arsenal v Burnley and maximize Arsenal v Barcelona. All the TV money will shift to the Super League. Do you have any idea how American sports are organized? They are cartel organizations governed and owned by the 30 or so owners of the clubs. No entry possible unless desired by the league. Kroenke, Glazers, FSG, Perez, Agnelli and co have no desire to revenue share with the lower teams. This is one among many steps that they will attempt to achieve that.

It will be the death of the league because it gives the big clubs even more money and even more power. It'll kill the competitive nature of the league and ensure that a club like us on a run where we do not deserve anything will always get its cut. Sharing 3.5bn amongst the founders whatever happens. Field your reserves and youth in the league no point really competing any more when that's guaranteed.

The PL deals will be nothing. Nobody will care about that League internationally. All the money in super League and it will kill the teams below which will lead to the end of many clubs in England.

And of course they won't stop became they're is no such thing as enough for these vampires.

This is globalisation, the opposite of brexit, and it’s not like Fifa/Uefa/leagues etc aren’t a cartel of their own, their main issue with this is the threat to the power they hold. At the end of the day these teams have the best players, inevitably fans will flock to watch. The last year has shown clubs can operate without fans in the stadium, now they need to maximise the other sources of revenue available to them.

At least it gets rid of the horrid refs / pundits in the english league / media.

I do partly agree fwiw, Ray: the existing institutions are detached from the fans and are happy with their own cartel. The idea that Sky has some great loyalty to this country is for the birds. Just run the superleague on a netflix-style subscription and it's a wrap - commercialisation finished. The way that the existing cartel has lined up behind VAR when fans appear to universally loathe it says it all to me about how much they care. To have the most precious moment of celebrating or not celebrating gutted has taken a bit of soul out of the game but the powers that be don't care. I somewhat struggle to care about their tantrum over this, even if it is ugly.

I've no doubt fans from across the globe will lap it up because they don't care about the club's they follow. They want instant gratification and couldn't care about the history of a club. The story of players like Rocky and Wright and the stories behind the club.

I have no love for uefa et Al but this is not going to make things better for fans in fact it'll be worse I predict.

All the best moments in Arsenal's history are linked to it's membership of the English leagues and all the honours and trophies. We aren't even a European powerhouse. But so of that great history can be thrown away in an instant so we can become the last placed team in a soulless superleague.

Arsenal will cease to be the club that I supported as a kid a London club that my family have always been connected with.

It will totally have thrown away it's history and this idea that there are classy and I for one won't be following them as before. It's been hard enough justifying keeping my season ticket with the incompetent way this club has been run to date but think this will be final straw.

UEFA and FIFA are just as corrupt as anyone. I don't like the precedent this sets though

What do we want?

Irresponsible levels of untamed capitalism in football!

How much do we want?

Just a little bit less than the amount that makes a European Super League a reality!

For anyone who was in any doubt, or was unaware that, for the last decade and a half, football at the highest level has been about nothing but maximising profits and the profiles of owners, this ESL bullshit must be a punch in the face.
I have fallen out of interest with "top flight" football for a few years now, it leaves me cold, I don't even miss it.
I recommend finding a sport / football team that's played competitively at a local level, going to games (when we can again), you will end up getting as much or more out of it than watching glitzy ad ridden coverage with a side of panto level punditry 3 times a week.

Just goes to show how out of touch these clubs owners are. They haven’t got a clue about the game, the tradition, the history and fans and nor do they care about any of that, anyway.

Jed, they are betting on the theory that football teams are non-fungible. That we are addicted to them. The question is what percentage of people will think I can reallocate X% of my Arsenal time towards watching rugby, a local footy player and team or Netflix.

They're right. I'd wager over 98% will stick with it, while the concept is probably quite attractive to the younger generation and football fans to come.
