Chelsea pitch owners group (essentially a fan controlled organization) who own the rights to stadium as well the naming rights of the club are considering cancelling the lease as well as bar the current board from using the Chelsea brand.

this. if kroenke wasn't so lacking in sporting ambition and vision he would have rejected this out of hand because there would be more upside in the 3rd best club historically in england saying "we're not interested." and make sure you had it in writing that they wanted you so there isn't some "well they haven't even been in the champions league in like forever and are in 9th place" dismissive responses.

but he desperately needs the security of being at the top table without having to compete for it.

that's fuckin brilliant, i'm jealous. wish we had that modicum of control. basically roman would have to build a new stadium and give his ESL franchise a new name while chelsea could play in england as chelsea and because of the circumstances i doubt the EPL and FA would require this new club to rise up the divisions.

The idea that there are this many people proclaiming to be this worked up about the concept of relegation is utterly fascinating to me. It will be interesting to see what the TV ratings for the upcoming Fulham-Burnley relegation 6-pointer will be compared to other games on at the same time. I think revealed preference would be rather enlightening.

Unclear to me why that's the better comparison. That's qualification for a tournament. The Super League has qualification as well (the details of which I don't believe it has specified yet, to be fair). Seems to me the big difference here is specifically relegation.

I am in the pro-ESL camp, but still think this is one of the stupidest things I have read in a while. The idea of people liking the concept of promotion and relegation is not because every match between two relegation threatened clubs has high viewership, but because a Manchester City fan in 1999 when they were in the Second Division playoff game should be able to hope that his club can win the Premier League in the next 10 years or so (circumstances of being taken over by a corrupt Thai politican and the UAE royal family apart).

Because the Super League is pretty obviously trying to replace the UEFA Champions League. The format of the competition doesn't really matter.

Its currently scheduled for the same day as Dortmund vs Leizpig and Barca vs Athletico. There is only one of those 3 games I'm likely to watch and it wont have Messi or Haaland playing in it.

Apparently Perez pushed the vote forward and then announced this when he was re-elected. 😆 But also I've read that Real Madrid supporters are much more supportive of the ESL than fans of other clubs.
