But Arteta was a terrible fit. Proof of that is how he want a near entire new squad. Its like no one thought to ask him how he sees his future managing the players we just shelled out huge fees for.
Question that should be asked is there reason to believe Arteta could deliver better results with a squad that's realistically attainable to us?
If we're talking Poverty FC where we need to sell before we buy, then my answer would be better results to regain UEL = yes, but better results to regain top4 = No.
Likewise if we were to consider KSE being willing to invest additional funds as required (to build a squad able to compete for top4), the question then becomes do we consider Arteta & Edu to be the right combination to do so? Again my answer would be No.
A big part of my concern re player transfer targets is Edu's lack of experience and the strategy seen last summer by signing short term experience over functionality. I'd rather have seen a reduction of quality/experience if it meant we actually had a squad/team that was 'fit for purpose' so as to be able to judge Arteta's vision of his end product.
For example we know what Potter's style is about at BHA, and it is evident that a lack of quality is the biggest issue and particularly in regards to finishing the chances they create. As such I'd have more trust in that process based upon the evidence than I do with Arteta, and/or Edu for that matter.
I've said previously I suspect the decision to stick with him last December has much to do with the ESL as anything as there was little need to improve the immediate options ahead of a longer term project. I'd be curious to know if those same decisions would be made had the ESL debacle occurred before Tuchel went to CFC, now that UCL revenues are important again.
That said tbh at this point I see nothing to indicate there is any priority to regaining top4/UCL for next season, and IMO the club/KSE strategy is more about efficiency of revenues/funds as a club on the whole, rather than about quality of the football team so as to improve revenue generation.
Bottom line IMO the vision will not work without additional investment (regardless of if top4 is a priority for the season or not), simply as there is too much rebuilding required for our extant/COVID revenues to achieve quickly enough to also retain those players we want to retain moving forwards - regardless of who is the manager = I'd still say the same had we signed Tuchel, Naglesmann, Flick or Rangnick.
Secondly I do not support that level of investment with our current incumbents at TD and manager based upon both their inexperience and the evidence they have provided to date.
