Has Arteta Truly Turned it Around?

Arsenal going on a winning run after going out of everything, and convincing fans that we'd sustain it for the entirety of the following season is nothing new. It happened many times under Wenger.

The argument that we were better since ESR arrived is also overstated. What if Leno leaves? What if Tierney plays fewer games? What if the teams around us improve? The playing field is always changing. Arbitrary sequences are often deceiving.

Arteta has taken us from 8th with a trophy to 9th and no trophy. He should be sacked immediately.

We’ve seen how well that model has worked at Spurs and Everton and countless other over the last 20 years.

We’ve ‘sacrificed’ 18 months under Arteta we should at least wait a little longer to reap the rewards.

Man Utd stuck by Ole after a poor (by their standards) first 18 months and look at them now (appreciate circumstances and transfer budgets are not identical)...

Hey! “Alternate history” is for losers like me. You guys have enough facts and numbers and tables and nicknames to go on to make your arguments. Leave the hypotheticals for the side of the argument that needs it.

If I knew I could get Rodgers today with all his fake psychology and large portraits for himself all over his house, I would. He’a done well with Pool and he’s doing the business with Leicester. Same reason I’d want a Grealish. You want the best men out in the Emirates at 3 o clock on a Saturday afternoon.

That said, I know Josh won’t move on the coach and we can only pray when it comes to the players

God. Look at West Ham. Didn’t we get a set piece coach? I guess he only learned how to defend set pieces. He needs to go back for Module 2.

I’m sure we could be doing more to create openings from set pieces. But if Rob Holding is who is getting onto the end of them it’s not going to matter, because the poor guy can’t get them on target to save himself.

Scoring goals from set pieces isn’t a skill many of our CB’s are blessed with. Gabriel chipped in with a few, but I don’t remember us getting more than a couple combined out of Mari, Luiz, Holding, Chambers etc.

We’d probably be in the EL final if Holding could head a ball as well as Allison. Didn’t he miss several half chances in the second leg?

Isn’t part of our dead ball problem that many of these balls don’t ever make it to the box in the first place. We faff around doing fancy routines

I'm sure there are plenty of managers out there who are better than a guy with a year and a half total of managerial experience and two of the worst league finishes in his club's recent history.

Yeah, first half of the season we were trying some nonsense at the near post or whipping it into the keeper.

More recently we’ve gotten better at getting the right ball in but our aerial threat is so poor. Luiz is the only one who ever really looks like he’s interested in fighting for the ball. Holding gets on the end of a few to be fair but always lacks direction.

You make it sound so difficult replacing a guy whose only prior experience involving football management was setting cones for Guardiola.

The thing about stats is that they can be used without actually watching any football. So someone not interested in football at all can look up Poch's Wiki and say "huh, he's won as many trophies as me so based on this ridiculously simplistic measurement I'm as good a manager as he is".

And the he never won any trophies argument is ridiculously stupid from back then. It has always been proven wrong time and time again with good managers, in the end they always won more after awhile than the one we are defending.
