I didn't want Ancelotti either, still don't think I do, but "they're only a place ahead of us" is certainly a weird argument. Similar to "if Martinez is so good then why are Aston Villa below us". Not going into that discussion again, but like you said when the team is coming from a lower base such comparisons don't work.
Everton have spent nearly £100m more than us over the last 5 years and have a higher net spend too. They've spent £200m more than Leicester too and significantly more than West Ham.
Anyway, my point wasn't about how they're doing compared to us, the point is we're having a disaster of a season and they're just one place ahead. They're not doing anything remotely special or impressive, even by their standards.
Mourinho won the league before too (3 times), I don't think anyone here thinks we should have hired him but then it wouldn't surprise me with the way everyone here has gone off the deep end.
