I'm still on the fence about arteta, leaning towards the side that thinks he's not actually good enough to lead us to former glory. I don't mean that the players are good enough either btw. I think they're poor too and we barely have 5 players (give or take) that are worthy of starting regularly for us. My bar is set high for Arsenal FC, we're not Burnley or Bolton here...
I'm part of the crew who think he got lucky in some ways. With forced player selections (ESR, Holding), patience of the board, covid excuses and more. I don't have much confidence in him leading us to a league title anytime soon, with or without the right players. He's too rigid in his approach, being bailed out by individuals rather than tactical prowess. I haven't seen anything to suggest his man management is any good either, I'd like to see if he can turn things good for some players who clearly have potential. He managed to make us more solid in defense, that'd nice. He sacrificed a lot though I think. We're an injury or two away from sputtering and hitting a bunch of draws as far as I can see. When things get tough, we'll see how he reverts to old habits. I blame his selection in backroom coaches too. His decision making is odd.
I really don't think he turned anything around that a half competent coach wouldn't have done in the same situation. That's why I struggle to ride his bandwagon. I really hope I'm wrong and he actually turns things around (getting us into CL for one) before we spend too much time and money on this so called narrative he seems to convince everyone with.
