Let's be honest, if you cut through all the bullshit, those who are or were taking a zero tolerance attitude towards our underperformance simply don't like or trust Arteta as a manager. Similarly those looking for excuses for our underperformance do like him and wouldn't have necessarily done the same for others (like Emery?). If the situations were reversed, I'm convinced the large majority would suddenly take a completely different view on how much patience should or shouldn't be afforded to a manager.
Quincy is right, I had a bad vibe about Emery, I wanted him gone. I have a good vibe about Arteta, I wanted him to be given as much time as possible. I like Arteta, I always have. Flobs may take the piss but he's always come across as someone who knows what he's doing, he's always talked a good game. I bought in. There's a competitiveness that I see in this team that I haven't seen for a long time and the nature of the FA Cup win was another big plus. More recently, I'm seeing a lot of the aspects that did concern me being addressed. Yes, 10th isn't good enough, part of the reason we are down there is down to his decisions and his mistakes, but ultimately I'm convinced we're going in the right direction under him and want to see how this project ends.
Yeah that's pretty fair. You yourself said then back in Dec that Arteta pushed you over the edge in wanting him gone after he went back to a back 5 and continue to play the players off form rather than young players available as the main concern, but be it by circumstances or planning now that it's been sorta addressed things are looking slightly better.
I'm actually not convinced anyone here dislike Arteta. Be it for or against reasons were clearly stated everytime. Not to mention he was really popular as a player and was top of our choice for a new manager back then. It's probably still too early to judge but statistically there's positives to hold on to under Arteta. Under Emery you could see we were falling into pieces and no return
Yeah, I don't think anyone could argue against the fact that there was a really strong argument for sacking him in that period. As you say even I lost patience at one point.
Football is about fine margins sometimes though, who knows Emery might still be here if we won the EL final, if Auba scored that penalty against Spurs or if Mustafi didn't Mustafi against Palace.
Arteta turned it around just in time in the end and the chances are, barring another catastrophic run, he will almost certainly be our head coach at the start of next season.
